Lose the busy brown background and the cutesy widgets separating the different sections in the right hand column. The simple
lines you used on the left hand column work and appear much better.
The color scheme for the site isn't particularly marine in nature... A blue or green scheme might be better.
I am guessing that you are using iWeb to generate the page... but it might be better if you used an actual blogging package. If you want to do that, it is pretty easy to do... WordPress is a very good blogging engine, easy to use, and free. Installation is pretty simple as well, provided your web server has mySQL and PHP installed.
Some of the advantages of using WordPress is that you can update your blog using any web browser, and can write posts via e-mail. Also, unlike an iWeb generated page, you can have your readers comment on your site, as I do on my blog.
If you have any specific questions, let me know via PM.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
