Posting a new thread with the title, "Silly Newbie Question", "Help", or the like is my personal bugaboo. I'm interested in quickly reading the threads that interest me, and not bothering with the discussions of proper bilge fermenting of sea bass. When the new thread title gives no clue as to the topic or question I'm forced to pull it up to find out what it is about. That's a waste of time.
Not much to be done about it, other than the original poster going back and editing it, but thought I'd mention it.

It's got to be the altitude. What the heck are you talking about? And what is your excuse when you are at sea-level? "Sea level" is certainly the only kind of "level" that could ever collide with you in the same sentence! Level headed is not one that immediately jumps to mind. Yer an ass and should move to Brussels.

I see that you are a Senior Member, and I'm just a newbie, I just hope when I'm a Senior Member I'm not an a**hole too.
I tend to agree with Sailaway on this one... it makes much more sense to have a thread title be as informative as possible, as to not waste the time of people who won't be able to help or aren't interested in the exact problem.
Saying "Raw water impeller problem" is better than "cooling system problem" because it is far more specific. Some topics are large, and can result in a heated and open discussion, like the Solar power thread..... even if some people are somewhat irrational about some of the equipment out there. Others are very limited in their appeal... Like "Yanmar 3YM30 oil filter replacement problem".
BTW, most of these thread titles were not specific thread titles and were for illustrative purposes only.

As this thread was in the Off-Topic forum, you could conclude it was not sailing related from that fact alone. No one forced you to open it.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

If you're new to the Sailnet Forums... please read this POST.
I chose to view this thread and I take full responsibilty for my choice. I agree that no one forced me to open it. I was wondering who or what was forcing sailaway21 to do so.
My point on wasting time is that this forum is partly for entertainment and partly for information. The information, albeit very useful, is largely on topics related in some way to sailing. For most of us sailing is recreation; it's how we choose to 'waste our time'. So, when it comes right down to it, this is all just a waste of time.
I don't want to just write 'Stop your whining!', I want to help. I doubt very much that people will change their habits and so I fear that sailaway21's troubles might continue. So, my advice is to realize that this is all a waste of time and realize that it's how you choose to waste your time. Knowing this may help to ease the pain.
My Sailnet pet peeve: Sanctimonious pinheads who feel the need to tell eveyone what constitutes 'proper sailnet etiquette'. (other than the people who maintain and run the site)
Yes it's not 'ideal' to have vague titles to threads, but get over yourself. It's not all about you.
