My $100 runabout....Pictures.....

I bought a 1982 Starcraft 14' runabout last friday. It was $100, so i couldnt pass it up. Ive spent all weekend tearing it apart and rebuilding the inside. I used cheap wood, and i know it will rot ina year or 2, but this winter its going to be restored back to like new(only laid out the way i want it) so all the wood will go then anyway. Ive got a 1972 40hp Evinrude to go on it. Its going to be a fun summer, going out sailing and skiing. This is also going to be my new dingy.

The boat looks really good in the pics, but it does need a paint job, loads of scratches in it. Id would say its a good 20' boat, as it looks great from 20'.

After i gutted the inside.

After building the new floor/seats/transom.

I got those brown seats at a local used marine store for $5ea, still in the boxes. The grey ones came with the boat.

Im going to paint all the wood, but not the hull. That 225 is a bit too big for it, only rated for a 55hp motor. Im looking for a 1982 50hp Johnson, as thats what the guy said was on it new.

Umm.. I don't know if that will work well as a dinghy to your sailboat... I'd imagine you'd look pretty strange towing that sucker behind your boat. Also, large rigid dinghies aren't very kind to the boats they're attached to. This subject has been beaten to death, so I won't go into the gory details...but someone else had been thinking of using an aluminum fishing boat for a dinghy, and finally came to their senses IIRC.

BTW, you really should paint the wood, just to give it some protection. You'd be amazed at how fast wood can rot...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Im going to paint all the wood in it. As for being the dingy, its pretty much going to be used to get to the boat on its mooring and then get left on the mooring. Im not going to tow it with me anywhere.

Looks like this boat will be perfect for what your wanting to do with it. You could even leave the seats out to make room for stores when packing up for trips. Then put them back in when you want to go skiing with others. Looks like fun.

I have a 50HP 2 cycle Everrude that has not been used much, it is of the vintage you are looking for. It has a 2 cycle oil reservoir that continually feeds. I live near Baltimore, Md. It needs a home. PM me if interested.
