I think this was posted somewhere before, but I will start another thread anyways. $4 gas???? Whew. Ain't gonna be pretty. How do you spell $4 gas:

R-E-C-C-E-S-S-I-O-N

Of course, it will make our sailboats worth more!!!

I spent all of $35 on fuel last season, and I still have almost nine gallons left.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

High fuel prices...not a problem for the boat. But the hour drive in the 12.5 mile per gallon pick up....ouch. I'm like a land based stink potter in that thing. Why can't toyota get off their butts and make a Prius based work vehicle? I'd buy that for $4...

Because it would be the size of a shoe box and then they'd charge you $75K for it!!!!

Here in Ontario, we're paying about $1.10/ litre with no sign of going down. Even if the price doubles we'll still have to buy it, it's essential to get around. At least my sailboat has a diesel, which isn't much cheaper, but it is a sailboat. Poor powerboaters

T34C is right, the car companies can make more efficient vehicles, but they are at the mercy of the big oil companies and they would only charge more for the vehicle. I think Brazil is the only country in the world that is self-suffient and doesn't import any oil. All of their vehicles run on Al-cool.

Dad, you are correct, your country is about to go into a major RECCESSION.

Reccession is more a factor of tax policy at this point, rather than consumer prices. If they raise taxes, even if as they say, only on the rich, the economy will tank. As long as it is better to invest/spend, rather than shelter, the economy should keep going.

I have heard, not based on fact, that even in the past few years, powerboats still out sell sailboats by a huge margin. I imagine that if they include all "powerboats" such as jet skis I could see that number being out of wack? Anyone have the facts? Just curious.

I know several power boaters who have not even taken off the shrink wrap due to lack of excitement for the upcoming season...bummer

Interestingly, this year two of our powerboating dockmates, with gas twin-engines sportfishing rigs, have bought smallish skiffs with mid-size outboards.

During last weekend's kick-off marina cookout, they announced to my wife and I that their season plans will involve keeping the big boat at the slip. (obviously for use as the summer shack). The skiffs are for going out to fish from.
