Phyllis...
Pffft, we were the only Jews I knew that had Ham on Yom Kippur, and Corned beef on Christmas.
1) First, and foremost, I am American. Note: not a jewish american, but american, plain and simple.
2)My mothers parents had those funny numbers tattooed on their forearms.
My father would say "tell me boy, what jew do you know that would stand to be lost for more than 4 minutes, much less 40 years?" to which my mother would smile and say "virgin birth, yea, right".
I don't care if you're jew or gentile, an ass or a schmuck. If you raise a hand to me or my brothers, be prepared to get it smacked off. I'm not going to negotiate with a moron, he'll bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
I wholeheartedly believe that if we, as americans had the balls to say "eff you" we're taking our 15.9 Billion, yea, with a "B" of aid this year, not counting the corporate pot of cash that they send and putting it squarely into our defense budget, these tinhorn whack-jobs with a cause would sit down and shut the hell up... reference? Libya... he's been strangely silent as of late. It might have been that he saw the writing on the wall?
While I'm on a rant... Whatever God-you-happen-to believe-in forbid, that you point a gun in my hairy butts direction. Ever heard the sound of an A-10 Warthog at about 200 feet? Try hearing Al-Jazeera when that bad boy is flying over your mudhut.
and for what its worth,
I lost a nephew in Iraq on thanksgiving day, 2005.
He was 32, a 13 yr vet on his second tour.
He had signed up for a third.

His Father served. His Fathers Father served. His Fathers Fathers Father... served.
3 of his Uncles, 4 of his cousins... served. (and thats just on his dads side, his moms side also served.)
Bob Dylan said “I think of a hero as someone who understands the degree of responsibility that comes with his freedom.”
I couldn't, heart murmer, plus if you couldn't tell I'm a bit of a cranky cuss. So, I spent years working for GE, writing NC programs to cut turbine blades for jet engines. Then went into telecom and net security(I digress)
My son, who is 16, says he wants to serve.
Why do they serve? Almost to a man all enlisted (had an Annapolis Man). They chose to serve for the same basic reasons. They realized it was a sense of duty. Because of what their parents and grandparents went thru, they owed it to their family, to their country to make sure they did their part.
Before I'm labeled as a right wing whack-o, I don't listen to limbaugh. I do think for myself. I read 3 papers a day, yea CNN and Fox too, PBS and the BBC. When I want a couple of laughs, I tune into NPR. Unlike some politicos, I would rather see something done other than talk about how the "other side screwed up". A troop pull out ain't it.
Nukes? no... Shimmy down in the mud and strap bombs to my masked face while boarding a full bus? no... thats Chicken shite. Show your face if you're so damn proud of yourself.
Give them an ultimatum. On this date, we're going to make this town a rubble pile. If the shite doesn't end, then on this date we're going to do the same to this town... If you ain't gettin' the message yet bub, the next town becomes a victim of smoke technology 24 hours later. Got it?
Then, actually do it. It wouldn't take long for the zealots to re-think their priorities. If they want to be martyrs, I say we help 'em out anyway we can.
Some, gave all.
I need a nap.
