Now I am very confused

Hi...I have sailed boats with tillers all my life, and I know that if I want to go left, I push the tiller to the right. (I don't know why, maybe tillers were invented by a guy with dislexy).

Why is it that now, on a boat with a steering wheel, if I turn it right, the boat goes right???

Should I cross my linkages?? Anyone???

Also another question, when I look at my bow from behind, the red light is on the left, but this boat coming at me has the red light on the left also...shall I tell him that his lights are crossed???

Giu,

Obviously you are just ignorant of the laws of physics. The answer to that is obvious. I cannot understand why very basic steering confuses you.

However, I have been having a problem of my own: When I go forward and turn the WHEEL left, I point left. But when I am going backwards and turn the wheel left, I point right.

THis sailing is sooo confusing.

Strange...did you ever pull that rope that hangs off the tall metal tower? I pull down and the sail thingy goes up. Pretty odd.

And to answer your lights question, (duh), everyone knows all of your lights should be white. That way, no matter what, you appear to be the boat that is being overtaken and have full right of way - even with freighters.

Try it. (smile).

My question...........
What are those little pieces of string on my head sail?
Should they point up or down?

Giu, If you are on a starboard tack and you want to go right, you need to tack, then jibe, then beam reach and you will go right. Okay, got it?

Be careful not to step on a tack, it will hurt your foot. Be Very careful.
When you jibe, does that mean you shake your booty real fast?
