Wasn't it already pointed out that these were overnight loans (three days last Friday)? The central banks are loaning to the banks as the banks aren't loaning to each other (against certain asset classes) as a result of uncertainty around the pricing. There's a lot of vacations being canceled in the banking industry right now as people get sucked into valuation excercises.
No new money is being pumped in after old. To think so is to misunderstand what is happening.
However - you are right in away. If the central banks don't provide this liquidity then the alternative would be unimaginable. But then - that's why they are there and all they are doing is there job.

If you had purchased $1,000 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.

With Enron, you would have had $16.50 left of the original $,1000.

With WorldCom, you would have had less than $5 left.

If you had purchased $1,000 of Delta Air Lines stock you would have $49 left.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the cans for the aluminum recycling REFUND, You would have had $214.

Based on the above, the best current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle

Usual looking "W" bottom pattern. Question is, is it time once again to buy it like it has been so many times before ... or is this the time it reverses itself. If it's a reversal it'll be all downhill from here, if not, new highs right around the corner. When the bottom finally drops out of this thing it'll be on a week exactly like this one, with this same basic pattern, but this is also the buy signal for all those double dipper bulls, they've seen it a hundred times before.

Another great opportunity to buy.....wooops, there it goes back up, too late.

On a brighter note, my BFIA just reached 1500(posts) and there is no turning back. I'll save you all the valuable time of analysis, it just means that I am not sailing enough.

Sapper, the Nortel crash was over five years ago. You've got to adjust that boilerplate for current times.
