Attacking other members behind their backs
You know who you are. I don't care to fight with you. Nor will I discuss anything with you directly. The member whose reputation you have been systematically attempting to impugn by opening each thread he has responded to and posting blatant lies is not even on line to defend himself. In some circles, sir, madam, or whatever you are, that is cowardly. I find it interesting that you wait until after midnight to attack when you are not likely to be moderated or "caught in the act", that is also cowardly and childish. Do yourself a favor if you find the company here so distasteful, leave.
To anyone who has read posts about a particular senior member and his her lack of experience--I do not know him personally but others do. I do know that he has responded kindly to my own questions and has responded very intelligently and with genuine knowledge-- the person making the malicious posts clearly has an axe to grind and is not to be trusted.

Yikes, first time I've seen the need for a post like this in some five years.
i encourage readers to hit the Reputation button of someing posting like that, give then some negative rep, also report the posts and I expect the Moderator will deal with the jerk.

DJ,
They comes and they goes.
Those truly interested in sailing tend to stay.
There are many different types of members. Some know nothing, own no boat, and only aspire to greater knowledge of sailing for that day when their dream of boat ownership is realized. Some have bought a boat and suddenly realized that there are many things they need to know other than how to sail it, hence the popularity of gear and maintenance forum. Others have a great deal of knowledge, need little advise, but just love talking sailing and are always interested in the latest scuttlebutt on how to get a six knot boat to do six point one knots. Yet others merely have a passing interest in sailing.
Some arrive, get what they need and disappear into the ozone. Others arrive and are put off by the pedantic nature of some of the responses. Many, and I'll use a recent example even though it is without permission, arrive and are so enthused about their boat and her workings that they'll wade through all advise, good and bad, in pursuit of the maximization of their enjoyment of sailing. Semijim typifies that type of poster. He's here to pick up advise and to regale us with his adventures. He gets what he needs and we enjoy his company. He's not going to let any pissant's ruin his quest. Those who are intimidated by the old salts should emulate him. And hence, Jim in turn, helps other newbies with his knowledge. There is no PhD of sailing here and good help is good help, regardless the source. One of the most inspiring things is when a new poster asks a question, a poster who had the same question six months ago responds with a reference to the old thread and how it worked out. This is evidence the whole thing works.
Then you get the posters with an agenda. That can vary from attacking a poster directly and personally to just being a general nuisance. Or it can be of a nature where the poster adopts a position so repugnant that there is wide spread condemnation. Those positions are usually political and become a problem when they spill into the sailing categories. The recent imbroglio with a certain lady over the "Jewish question" was such. Other agendas though may involve sailing itself. The Ken Barnes fiasco elicited passionate responses. The sailing with bulldogs thread was a classic. The latter begged the question, if your mind is made up why are you asking us?
Most with an agenda, even if it's just a goal of messing with people's heads, really do not last that long here. It takes time and effort to post, and if one get's the impression that one's posts are being ignored, one soon loses the enthusiasm for making them. Contrast that with Solar World, now approaching 100 pages. There are about 2-3 pages of good information in there, God help you finding 'em. The rest is a back and forth between sides who won't drop the bone and have forgotten that bones have no nutritional value. Had they just let it go, it'd have been gone in short order. Ignoring disruptive posters is the surest cure. If no attention is paid they pout and decamp.
The trick, in my opinion, is to confine the personally controversial to the off topic forum. Disagree with the poster in the forum based on facts, go to "off topic" and call him an "ass" based on emotion. There's even a special thread for that purpose there. And some even take pride in their standing in it-go figure.
The current poster will either mellow or meander off. I don't believe in giving negative points unless the post is on sailing itself and egregiously erroneous. We're all big boys and girls here, and we protect those who are not, and our standards evolve based on the level of our individual responses. Each descent into personal diatribe lowers the overall tone. Each optimistic on topic greeting and advise raises it. The optimistic and enthused sailors are winning as evidenced by our continued growth.
Stay upbeat and positive. Nobody likes a rain squall in the middle of a nice day, and this will quickly pass as does the squall.

Thanks Dj... Fortunately, I've been out sailing, and don't get internet on the boat. I go there to get away from this type of crap. I get the feeling that he's a previous Sailnet user whose previous handle was banned... just trying to cause trouble.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
