Hey Lancer,
I'm a proud uncle of a Marine C-130 Crew Chief. Keeping the family's aviation tradition.

Really, the Hercules is the transport equivalent of the B-52, an initial design so appropriate that it is still capable of both qualitative and quantitative improvement over 50 years after introduction, and still has a niche in modern aviation.

I last saw one at 100 metres over my head at the Toronto Air Show two weeks ago. I think it was an "H" variant, but I believe we are getting the next generation "K" models as well as four C-17 Globemasters for getting our tanks to bloody Afghanstan.

I will argue about the logic of Canada deploying its troops in such places, but I am fairly immovable on my insistance that we support them adequately once they've landed, and these Globemasters are quite capable of landing a small parking lot worth of rolling stock on a one-kilometer landing strip.

CliffL is on a distinguished road
The 777 is actually built to land in a crab (as in the video)...also like many thin wing fighters. I was lucky and got to fly the 777 for a short while between JFK and London...never had to do a serious crosswind landing...only in the sim...takes all the discipline you've got to not kick in a rudder and lower the wing to align with the runway as one would do in most other aircraft. Oddly enough, in 75/767 training (same Boeing builder), a heck of a lot of time is spent landing (in the sim) in high crosswind situations with one foot planted firmly on the floor (leward side) and the fighting to keep the wing down on the windward side with the yoke ...especially fun in single engine work with the dead engine on the down-wing (windward) side. Enough about that...let's talk about something I know little-to-nothing about...like sailing or racing sailboats!
