Edward Teach (Black Beard) is a legend in the OBX. He has quite a history in Ocrakoke. Silver Lake at ocrakoke (incredibly beautiful place) was his hideout. Cam would probably know all in that area.
Blackbeard visited our neck of the woods here off HHI. I believe his ship (the Queen Anne?) sailed up Port Royal Sound, then up the Beaufort River where he anchored. If I remember correctly, they hung out on St. Helena Island. The Spanish were here as well. I think they camped on Parris Island.
It was "The Queen Anne's Revenge"... She sunk in the Beaufort Channel.
Ocracoke/ Silver Lake... We're taking a trip there next weekend! woo hoo! Farthest trip so far and we have another boat going with us... a catalina 36.
AAARRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pirates were considered villains in the times. we see them as people whom expressed and seeked freedom (minus the atrocities they may have commited)
I actually didnt pick us pirate as a user name on the forum. i had it since way before the johnny depp movies anyway. the name of our online gaming team was "American Pirates" uspirate was my email id at the time i signed on to Sailnet. but i do like the freedom, the treasure, the wooden ships and the lush tropical islands
