I got pulled over by a cop...ehehehe

So here I was, driving my Hertz Chrysler 300, doing 75mph, according to the speedometer. Highway max is 70 MPH (yawn)....

Suddenly...a show of red and blue lights and flashing white lights behind me...

Cool I thought....Cops Live...I wonder who they're after...

Guess it was me...

So I stop....and as any polite European, I pulled immediately, way off the road (which he later appreciated a lot), and smiling I open the door and got out....

ahahahahahahahaha

Man did the kid freak out......(yes but a kid)...In my Country we're expected to get off the car, walk to the back where its safe for both, and we normally shake hands....

He was so nervous....he did not know if he should shake my hand or shoot me....

I said...my ID and passport are in the trunk...he said, ok, open it real slow...

I was so amazed...he said they do this because people shoot at cops a lot in the US....

Anyway...turns out the speed was 79mph. The speedometer is wrong...

The cop was surprized and we ended up talking for a while...

I felt sorry for a person that has to work and has fear of stoping a car...

He told me to stay in the car next time....

He appreciated I stoped away as much as I could from the shoulder...he said Americans rarely do that.

He said he saw I had no bad intentions when he looked at me, otherwise he would have pulled the gun...

We shook hands, and he said to complain to Hertz...never gave me a ticket...

PS...his face trying to figure out my european driver's licence was funny..see our licences are almost like books..

I'm going home Saturday....then I will disapear for 4 weeks again...

Alex

Now you know...

Giu -- Yep, proper protocol here is stay in the car and keep both hands on the steering wheel in plain sight when the policeman first walks up. Unfortunate, but too many police officers do get shot over here.

I was cruising through the ditch in the Atchafalaya Basin (Louisiana) when a Jackie Gleason looking Sherriff pulled us over. A little bass boat with sherriff, deputy, and rotating blue light stopping a documented vessel that could swallow him whole. He looked through every nook and cranny and then admitted he just wanted to check out the boat. It was a lot funnier than it sounds - you had to be there.

Yes Giulietta, It is scary for the police here - I couldn't do it. It takes special people and those people are way under paid for what they have to go through.

I was flagged off the road by a Bikeer-Cop standing in the the road. Going a tad over the speed limit are we, he said. I said, yes I was, Im sorry but I need to move a boat out of a slip before to tide gets any lower. The captain and 12 crew members will kill me if they cant sail the boat in todays Stanford Denmark race. He said OK you can go but keep your speed down. That was close!

The two most dangerous calls for a law enforcement officer are traffic stops and domestic disputes.

I've got a good friend that is from England that lives here in Georgia (USA, for you internationals). The guy is an incurable tease with a British accent.

He told me was traveling across the Florida panhandle when he got stopped by a small town southern cop. The cop asked him if he knew why he was stopped. "No, sir", my friend replied. The cop asked him if he knew the speed limit on this road. "Yes, sir. 90", he innocently answered. "90!! Boy, where'd you get 90?!" asked the cop. "Well, I see the signs all down the road that say 90", again, innocently. "Boy! The road is route 90! The speed limit is 55".

The cop explained to my friend the difference between the road signs and the speed limit signs (which my friend already knew quite well) and let him go with short lecture.

Alex, I believe I've been in your car when you've done 75 mph up the hill to your house. North American highways must be very boring for you....
