politics and such ...

Okay, sorry about the hijack of Sander Os post, I'll start this off with the original post:

Okay, gotta jump on this one "blue-stater" that I am. Do any of these considered coservative platforms fall into the category of enforcing behavior that is in line with their own beliefs? I noticed these were not on your list:
gay marriage?
abortion?
school vouchers?
faith-based intitiatives?

To continue: I don't think any of these is inherently a red/blue, dem/rep, or lib/cons issue - but they seem to have been appropriated by one side, as has the flag. IMHO, the 'religious right' is neither.

I have to ask but when you say "with their own beliefs" do you mean mine in particular or the platform. yes, as I stated earlier in the other thread there is a very faded line between tickets. As far as religion goes, what do you mean by "religious right' is neither."? Then we can carry on with the debate? I think at the moment at least for me it is rather ambiguous.

Well this thread sure started on an angry note.

I’ll assume you’re inviting opinions Eyrka.

Here's my stand:

Gay Marriage? I don't care - just don't force me to give you special rights.

Abortion? I think it's wrong and will vote against it . . . even if “Blue Staters” out breed my side . . . but that's my right . . . to VOTE . . . not run to an activist judge because I can't get my way through the proper channels. “Red Staters” don't tend to do that . . . do they?

School Vouchers? HELL YES! I don't think the poor should have to be forced into the “Blue Stater’ views ONLY being taught to their children! I want my kids learning how to compete and survive in this world, not learn how to put a condom on a banana in Social Studies class and vote for an American Idol! I think choice is their right! “Blue Staters” are for choice aren’t they? Or is that only when the choice is the “Blue Stater” view. If Vouchers were allowed liberal schools would go the way of liberal radio. They would die from lack of interest.

Faith-based Initiatives? Who's faith ? Darwin? Gore? Mohammed? The Dali Lama? I say leave them all out. Teach Math, Science, Patriotism! The stuff that counts! My family attends church. We have our faith. I’ll keep mine out of the Public School system if you will keep yours out!!!

“The 'Religious Right' is Neither”? . . . then the Left is? I’ve seen the cute bumper sticker.

You didn’t mention my right to bear arms. Good thing. I have a Texas point of view on that one.

We can still be friends. I have several Gay and liberal friends. Not a problem.

Phewwwwwww. Back to the rum thread for me.

I'm becoming offended by the over use of quotation marks on this site. Consider yourselves warned.

Can I "quote" you on that?

I know, I said I was going to the rum room . . . I'm going.

Sorry, guys - I was trying to undo my inadvertent hijack on SanderO's farewell thread, and I started this out of context. (see #29 & 30 on that thread)

This is part of #29: As you know...I love to debate libs (and even conservatives on occasion) who are of good heart and earnestly wish to discuss the issues of the day from their own perspective.
Perhaps I should have phrased it as "do gooders" rather than liberals for nothing angers me more than people who try to restrict others freedom to align and enforce behavior that is in line with their own beliefs. These folks always know what is best for me. Motorcycle helmets, seatbelt laws, no smoking total bans, anchoring laws, boating licenses...limitations on free speech....all for my own good.
So..apologies to my liberal friends here on my poor choice of words. I am forthwith editing my earlier post so as not to cast unintended aspersions on those I heartily disagree with on many issues but still call friends!

Then this from #30: Okay, gotta jump on this one "blue-stater" that I am. Do any of these considered coservative platforms fall into the category of enforcing behavior that is in line with their own beliefs? I noticed these were not on your list:
gay marriage?
abortion?

I agree that I strongly resent someone who believes to know better than I do, what's best for me. Though I resent it from either side. If "side" makes sense. I'm really bored here at work today, wanted to stir things up. Maybe instead I'll get DJ, Melissa, and Denise and go rattle cages on Hoffa's poofy ladies thread.

I heard he loves flags of all types.

Gay marriage is wrong and if is done there will be no special considerations.

Abortions? Just think killing someone piece by piece. It will be up to your morals. Yes there are always exceptions.

School vouchers? Of course,

Faith based. Very personal issue. I just demand equal time. If my faith offends you? so what. Just don't shove yours in my face.

What about immigration?

Jerry
