Katrina vs. Fires in California

Is it just me or has anybody else seen a difference between the reactions to the disasters that have occured in New Orleans, or on the whole coast of California from Santa Barbara to the Mexican boarder.

First of all, I notice that Bush hasn't been blamed for the fires. (bush as in G. W. Bush). Although Barbara Boxer has said that the national guard can't deploy men and equipment due to the war in Iraq. Makes one wonder where the commander of the national guard says there's plenty of personnel and equipment. I guess fuzzy minded politicians have a better grasp on military and logistics than military commanders.

Second, the people that have been evacuated to relocation centers seem to be having a tail gate party. Seen the news? "Yeah, my 5 million dollar house burned down, I lost everything, have to start over, but the coffee here is really good".

I think know the difference. The people in California, being westerners, aren't dependent on government to take care of them. More individualistic, more self dependent. They have jobs, insurance, and a vision. Even though most are democrats. What the heck is going on?

It was nice to hear the General say they had the resources . . . plus. I guess he doesn't want to be General much longer.

Arnold has NOTHING to do with it. I get so tired of all these republicans thinking they have it worked out. This is a very elaborate, and detailed plan by Hillary to help our nation. By burning down California, you will suddenly make a bunch of people homeless. Thus, the hotel business will boom. Then, all the construction workers who are unemployed right now will be employed. Then, All the people will have brand new homes re-evaluated at the new property calue to increase the tax base. With this new tax base, we can provide all of the country and all illegal immigrants health care and can increase all the welfare and decrease the taxes and win the war in Iraq while pulling home all of our troops.

This is very complicated stuff that you simpletons just cannot understand. The Californians do. They are even celebrating her. DOn't believe me, take a look:

Hey CD, I think you nailed it. We think republican, but vote democrat. But why isn't somebody blaming someone for the fires. Outside of the fact that you can set your watches to the the fire season, and just wait. February will be flood season. And then earthquake season, and in the doldrums of summer the Riot season. Who says we don't have 4 seasons out here?

Un-fricken'-believeable. This could quite possibly be the best thread I've ever read here!

Let's put it this way, for our slower listeners out there. We Cali Boyz and Girlz know how to get **** done. Period. We're not the 8th most vibrant econmy in the f'ing world for being lazy slack-offs. None of that meee-ooowing around waiting for the useless Uncle to show up and hand out tv's, cigarettes and cheese burgers. And does anyone know why this is? 'Cuz we've got balls, intelligence, moxie, caring people and WAY too much time, energy and money invested in this place. If you give a **** about yourself, your family and your neighbors, then you do something immediately instead of waiting for the playground monitor to come and tell you it's time to go back to room 13.

'Nuff said. if you can't figure the difference 'tween the two disasters, then I've got nothing to tell ya...........

Rick

uspirates, we've been having santanas for the last 5 day, the barometer has lifted, meaning the low pressure has moved off. Still get the easterlies in the morning, but now about mid day the NW kicks in and brings all the smuts that was blown out back in. The only difference is that it's cooler. Forecasts are indifferent, nobody wanting to make a committment. You should come down, if for nothing else to get all the ash off the outside, and inside of the boat. This stuff is so fine it's all over the interior.

Give me a holler if you get here.

Ian,
I think you might have summarized the difference between the situations fairly well in your original post.
Although, we may be in the initial honeymoon phase of natural disasters. Rest assured that more than one or two will come up with a reason that the Feds should make them whole.

Then again, perhaps the homes destroyed were the nexus of the sub-prime mortgage market we've read about in these pages. And while none of these homeowners had a chance in hell of paying their mortgage next month due to their ARM re-setting, they all had their homes insured for full purchase price! If we could get the wind to co-operate we'd see similar "refinancing" coast to coast. I'm leaning on the wisdom of Rick505 for this theory!
