Brace yourself - new crises - beer

There is a news item on CBC news video (I don't know how to link it) warning viewers of the future "beer" crises. Apparently there is a world wide shortage of hops due to bad weather in Australia and else where. Also there is a growing shortage of grain as farmers switch over to corn to fuel the ethanol demand.

Time to switch over to wine as my full time beverage I guess.

I suspect beer prices will be rising, especially on the IPA's . . . bad news for hopheads like myself.

Don't worry. Be happy. There'll be plenty of Pabst to go around.

The prices for quality IPA 6-packs at the chain liquor stores here in Australia have gone up from AUS$19.99 to AUS$20.99 in the past month.

I'm lucky that I don't particularly care for hoppy beers. I'm a Guinness fan. You can always grow your own and brew your own. I've read that hops are really easy to grow in most parts of the country.

That's plumb rediculous! You can get a very good IPA 6-pack here for $8 USD. I guess it pays to be surrounded with very good micro breweries and to have local hops available.

Charlie, prices of beer can be quite high in other countries, most to do with taxes. Here is a link to find what a pint costs in other countries, but it isn't in American of Canadian dollars:
