Typical Portuguese marriage

This has nothing to do with sail, but beats political threads and shows to you what and how a different culture do their things.

Si here it goes.

2 Weeks ago I had to go to a marriage.

Its my wife's cousin, her name is Guadlaupe. She is not like my other cousins, that is fat. Just joking I have no fat cousins.

Here is a small description of what a Portuguese marriage looks like.

It starts at 10 am, with the arrival of all the guests, the father of broom and father of bride welcome the guests.

THis is the arrival of my family. My wife on the right, and my mother in law dressed in the fresh salald suit in the middle and the bride's father, Giulietta's uncle, on the left.

Once the fathers welcome, the broom and bride offer wine, champagne and liquor to the guests.

Its funny because they also have to drink (sip) with each guest, so by the time they get to church...they're wasted...who cares anyway, theyre getting married, and all day is dedicated to food, drink more food and more drink...I think my kids got drunk too, from breathing the same air we were exhaling...

This here bellow is the church they chose. (sorry no photos of marriage inside, its a church).

This is the back side of the church and were the lunch, dinner and supper were served.

This is the place we eat.

Before having lunch and after the religious cerimony of marriage, by a priest, we all go here, see bellow, to have a snack. We eat choriço, ham, fresh tapas, drink all you want red, white, scothch, caipirinhas etc. we eat also, from salads to chicken legs. Its all cold food. Did I mention we drink too?

Giulietta and Luis

My wife's aunt, sitting down, her husband (he lost his teth in the ball room that moment there, but found them later). My mother in law in the lettuce suit is next to my wife.

Then after the snack we come outside for some drinks and to meet everuyone..we talk about things like family, politics and stuff...no sailors there, so I took photos...
The bride bellow

I told you the kids must have drank, Luis was behaving very badly, he ran away all the time....he likeed the bride.

and Fred was playing bull fights with a few girls he met there.

here is me with my family.

Then we had dinner

The bride opened the ball and danced for the guests, we then all danced, well those that could stand up.

and Luis doing his Monthy Python impersonation...drunk bastard..

We then had supper, and at 2 am we went home, I guess....

Thanks for watching

Thanks for the story and great photos. Still wondering how much your parents had to pay her to marry you...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

That was a good one SD. Whatever it was, I'm sure they feel it was a bargain.

Giu, It looks like the couple had a wonderful wedding day. All the best to the bride and groom.

Very interesting Giu... and way better than a political thread too. Sometimes i think that's all people want to talk about around here. Especially since the winterizing of boats has started.

Congradulations and best wishes to the bride a groom! A few questions... In the US... or for a lot of families atleast, it is tradtional to have a rehearsal the day before the actual wedding... and then afterwards you have a rehearsal dinner... which only involves the people that are in the wedding as well as family. Would you have a dinner the night before as well or would it just be the day of the wedding?

Also... is the music more modern or is it traditional... or both?

(pic #7)... Fred loves the gameboy huh? lol

The music is normal weding music, its not traditional cause no one wants that music as a tradition, and not modern, because some songs are really crappy..

They play rhumbas, tangos, Lionel Richie's songs, and other crap alike..

Hey, man...you're clever, sharp eye...Fred hated the first half of the marriage, the obligation part, so we allowed hinm his PS portable, but then he met the girls and returned it ot us..

We don't have a rehearsal, all moments shot "live"...I kow in the US you do the rehearsall, we don't

Not quite true. some us jump on on the motorcycle after a good night of drinking it up with some chick we met a few hours before and go to the drive through chapel where we're married by Elvis.
