Chinese Toys, Terrorism or Neglegence?

A form of terrorism or quality control issues just wondering others thoughts with all of the toxins being introduced to our kids.

k1vsk will become famous soon enough
we manage to do most of this to ourselves without importing help - remember McDonald's and gas station free glasses? All of which had lead paint. Negligence and stupidity are mutually exclusive things...

Since our son and his wife have had their first baby recently, my wife and I have been rummaging through the attic in search of all the toys we bought and saved for our two kids through the years. We stored them in anticipation of this moment.

Many of the toys we bought when they were infants, and were from manufacturers like the German company - Brio, hand-crafted hardwoods, painted and/or clear-coated with beautiful finishes. They were lovingly stored and preserved in near-new condition by my wife.

We're talking the 1970's, early '80s, perhaps before all the strict regulations with lead paint, small removable parts with chocking risks, and potentially toxic materials. It's got us thinking about whether we should pass them on to our grandchildren.

But, then again - what about all the "poisons" we all ingested as babies? Lead paint was dominant in most homes, as well as mercury. I seem to have survived, but this could explain some things. (g)

I'm with you TB. We live in a bubble society. I drink water out of the tap! What was the question again?

Yeah, you guys are right. makes wonder how we survived, lol. no car seats, riding in the back of the pickup or on the rear dash, sharp edged metal toys etc... i guess i was in my early twenties when those "Caution Baby on board" signs were being displayed in every new parents vehicle. like i gave a rats @$$ at the time

TB-

I think those old toys are probably far more beneficial to the children than the crap you see on shelves today, and far less dangerous. I would rather have my nephews and nieces playing with some of the more "dangerous" toys that I knew from my childhood, than the supposedly safer modern alternatives that are half as educational or versatile. A good example of this is the Erector Set toys I had when I was a kid. Very few toys were as good for learning about mechanical devices and principles—yet the same toys would be recalled today as a choking hazard at a minimum...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Never mind China, we had some real domestic hazards maquerading as toys. Remember lawn darts? How many kids got impaled on those before they were pulled?

Isn't that what lawn darts were for? My mom kept telling me to go play in traffic, surely that wasn't unsafe either was it? (g)
