Yo Ho Ho!

Because I live in his congressional district, I have recently been getting mail, (At Taxpayer expense) from Rep and Presidential Candidate Ron Paul. The first bragged at how supportive he was of President Bush, a blatant falsehood! But it was the most recent that sent me laughing to the deck. He has introduced HR3216 to allow the President to issue Letters of Marque and Reprisal with ..."respect to certain acts of air piracy upon the United States on September 11, 2001 and other similar acts of war planned for the future.". The Congress is granted this right under Section 8, Paragraph 11 of the Constitution, the War powers provision. For those of you from Loma Linda, this is the authorisation of Pirates to act with the appearance of legality as "Privateers". As Lord Nelson said, "I am unable to ascertain any true difference between the two!". As soon as I can find an eyepatch and cutless, I will ask Representative Paul to get the President to send me one of them their Letters of Marque. However I need at least a few cases of good rum before setting sail! Considering the object of the exercise, Captain Morgan may be the best brand!

Laugh if you must, but I have it on good authority that CD is already processing his paperwork on the matter. While he does not figure to engage any Man of War vessels in actual combat he figures that the S/V Dead Short should qualify for some type of Department of Energy subsidy due to her privateer status, part of his ongoing effort to find someone else to fund his cruising efforts. You think I'm making this up?
