What a load of hogwash. Since when has unskilled labor, which is un-educated labor either due to lack of experience or formal education, paid well. Skilled labor and jobs requiring an education have always paid better and always will. For a relatively brief time in our history, about twenty-five years, there was a time when a relatively low skill job in manufacturing paid a rather handsome wage. Some of the guys putting the bolts together made more than the guys who designed where the bolts would go. That is an inquity that cannot last.

eryka wonders where our food is going to come from. I'm not sure what she does when she get's ashore but I might suggest a brief excursion across the midwest. We could lose about a half dozen state's corn production and it wouldn't be more than a blip on the agricutural stat sheet. Feed ourselves? Heck, we feed half the world-it's the only way we can keep farmers in this country working. If we only had to feed ourselves, we could eliminate half the farmers tomorrow morning and never miss their production.

Get an education and you'll always get work. Learn a trade, you'll always have work, although if your trade is eclipsed by technology you may have to learn another. It has always been thus, our memories are only good for about a generation and a half.

How many of you that are complaining about this American jobs problem are sailing a Hunter or Catalina? Driving a Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac Buick, Corvette, Chrysler, Dodge, Lincoln or Ford?
US manufactured foreign cars count for a half credit. The profits all go back to the home country.

If you are about to complain that the US cars contain a lot of foreign parts then why aren't you driving a Saturn. Check the numbers, they are the highest US content cars in the world. You have no excuse, buy a F-ing Saturn or zip it!!! Thank you (g)

My boat was made in Annapolis, by an American-owned company... well, technically, the owner is an Englishman, who's been living her for 30 years...but his son, daughter, son-in-law and most of his employees are Americans.

As for cars, had a Saturn, but gave it to a friend who needed it more, and still own a Ford.

There are a few other boats made, besides Hunter and Catalina, that are American built. Valiant, Pacific Seacraft, J/Boats, etc. are all American built boats. Corsair was, but I believe they've off-shored their manufacturing to Vietnam now.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

The Dallas Morning News makes the assumption that growth in the American economy wouldn't have happened without the illegal immigrant. One aspect really is much simpler than they'd like to admit. If there were not the availability of half-price labor to employers, without penalty, there would be no illegal immigration problem to deal with. One cannot make the a priori statement that we wouldn't be in economic situation we are without illegal immigration without examining in depth where we might have been had the law been enforced. The Dallas Morning News is trying valiently to have it's cake and eat it too. I'll be eagerly awaiting their treatise on "Jobs American's won't do" running concomittantly with one on the "living wage". I don't have the projected life-span to wait for their review of a basic economics textbook.

long ago in this thread I saw this:
"Silicon valley & Redmond Washington are importing jobs left & right because they can't find enough QUALIFIED workers."

If by qualified, you mean low-cost offshore workers sure, I can see that.

I was asked this question by a hiring manager at De**.
"Why should I hire you when I can get three people in india at a lower price?

How about communication skills, experience....

"Oh, I can get three, and we'll live with the QC problems."

You know, I'm not sure this is the right place for me.

Didn't dell have to pull back on their customer service in India because it was causing too many problems? I know their stock price dropped pretty good because of poor support. I stopped buying their product.
