"Bovine Conservatism"

More radical thinking from the wildernesses of Canada results in the possible replacement for the lib-fave term progressive.

I agree there's nothing liberal about so-called "liberals." Nor is there anything even faintly progressive about them, either. (That's the term some so-called "liberals" now wish to be know by.) I likewise agree that technological problems usually require technological answers. We certainly aren't going to effectively address energy and pollution issues by rationing. But just because part of their message is bovine conservative excrement, doesn't mean everything they have to say is nonsense. And it certainly doesn't mean everything their detractors say is as gospel from on high.

Someone once wrote "There are two kinds of people, those who want to put others into categories and those who don't."

I'm not sure if it's radical thinking or not, but it's not good thinking, imo and I don't agree with it.

The only labels that I wish to be known by are father, husband, brother, friend and as such try to do unto others.

Labelling someone limits your understanding of that person. Labelling yourself restricts the ideas or concepts that you are willing to accept. Ideas and people are best judged on their merits, not by labels they or others have ascribed or prescribed to them.

The article makes the opinion that every new idea is good, all old ideas are bad and anyone who is not willing to accept this is stupid. By placing these labels on the ideas, himself and others, Mr Jonas has become just as, or perhaps even more constipated in his thinking than those he is criticizing.

"As I recall the story from school, when Pythagoras, “the father of numbers,” came up with the theorem that bears his name, his admiring Greek countrymen sacrificed 200 oxen in his honour."

So whom are we supposed to admire today since we are killing 1000's a day?

Capn,
I almost wondered if we'd read different articles until I re-read it once again. I'm not sure I'm against labelling either, to the extent that I'd like to be able to determine the respective containers for aspirin and poisin. and I must say that the Periodic Table of Elements is working out famously. Are you against labelling or the conotations some labels impart?

As to your last paragraph, it's what made me wonder if we were reading the same article. the author does have a very interesting bio., it's the first I've heard of him.
