How to determine a Thread is not worth reading

Look for Sailaway21 in the name of the submitter.

nm, I assume U have a slightly masochistic vein. Either that or you're just jealous of Captain Speedos popularity.

I must admit I don't understand 80% of what he says, but that does not mean it is not worth reading.

Here we can allways have the option of not reading what we don't want and even can ignore the poster.

I have become used to SA as the political watchdog. Some stuff I like and read, other I don't like and don't read. But saying its not worth reading is too much in my opinion.

This place is good for its balance. I am sure many people don't like me or what I writte, and there are many I don't like.

But keep it to myself.

SA is like the weatherman...sometimes he gets it right, sometimes he misses it with charm...

I read him, even if I don't understand him...

Funny that they can never cogently refute the message, so instead, they belittle the messenger. One can but admire the tolerant, open-mindness they expect from others, but are so unwillingly to grant themselves .... unless of course, you agree with them.

Point taken PB, but still find this sort of thing superfluous on these forums !

Not being interested in politics I just ignore everything on that tack and have no opinion at all. But as a sailor Sailaway21 has a lot of experience and understands much more of what’s involved then most members of the group. His posts on sailing subjects have always been interesting even when we differ on the how and why I have to respect his opinions.
All the best,
Robert Gainer

I think you meant to say is they attempt to belittle the messenger. What they actually accomplish is something quite different, and not at all what was intended.

One on-line forum in which I participate strictly prohibits ad hominem attacks. Personally, I think that a good rule. Such attacks add absolutely nothing useful to a discussion or discussion environment, in my opinion.

I found the comment of the OP frivolous and downright rude to be honest. Yes sailaway can be a bit on the nose, but he has as much right to air his opinions as anyone else. I smell a rat, this is the OP's 13 post and he is out there bagging a player of some standing.

Hey NW, that was a little blunt ....

By my current count, almost 2/3 of the threads with "New Posts" in this section of the forum were started by Sway.

His threads may be controversial, but they certainly "bring-em-in".

It's kind of funny, as I was scanning down the page, before I got to your thread, as I was deciding which threads to read first, I had a similar thought. But it would never have occurred to me to make a thread to that effect.

I often pass on Sway's threads because politics is not why I come here; and I frequently have a somewhat different view on many subjects; but to minimize the validity of the opinions expressed on those threads serves only to reinforce the views of those on the right about the validity of the views of those on the left.

Beware the activiist on ANY side of the aisle that will only listen to those he/she agrees with.

I was going to delete the original thread post as a personal attack but you guys have effectively removed the need to do so.

As to nwpacketeer....6 of his 13 posts are on off topic subjecs...one is to tell us that he is in the NW and has no ocean experience and big plans...and the rest seem to be recommending the virtues of his boat to others given his vast experience...or how to store step ladders aboard. Not exactly scintillating or convincing reading.
Since he seems to have inadequate ability to form a logical argument in the face of Sway's prose, he instead chooses to attack the messenger.
May I suggest that the "ignore function" may be better used on the OP rather than the subject of his venom.
