The Christmas thread and its mention of political correctness made me think.... and does it make sense:
The Ten Commandments are banned from public display in schools and government buildings, yet
our money clearly says In God We Trust...
We worry about violence and drugs and yet we glorify both in movies, popular music and video games.
People have sex... have for thousands of years... yet it is more offensive to the "public morality" to show people having sex, which is probably a very likely experience in their lifetime and generally results in a movie getting an NC17 rating, than having a bunch of people doing drugs and shooting and killing people with automatic weapons... which, I seriously hope, is not an experience most people will have in their lifetime.
Exactly how is 120 minutes of guys running around with automatic weapons, shooting and killing people more harmful than showing a woman's naked body???
The Republicans, particularly the GWB regime, claim to be more moral than the faithless Democrats, yet it seems every time GWB and his regime have opened their mouths in the last seven years, more lies have come out than truths. Look at the reasons for invading Iraq... the way the Bush administration plays with the Terrorist Threat Levels... the lies about Iran's nuclear policies...the lies about warrantless wiretapping, and how the truth came out....They've broken more laws and been less moral than almost any other government in history.
The Republicans found it fair to prosecute and impeach Clinton for a lying about consensual sexual affair, which was only found after investigating something that happened ten years prior to him becoming President... yet don't see anything wrong with Bush violating the Constitutional rights of all Americans??? What the F**** is up with that.
The US complains about the high cost of gasoline and greenhouse gases—but they're still driving SUVs...
no one made them build the Hummer H2... yet, someone is still buying them.
The US complains about how the world doesn't cooperate... yet,
maybe they would cooperate more if we were willing to talk to them as equals, instead of trying to dictate what they should and shouldn't do.
The US complains about the terror caused by Islamic Fundamentalism...
yet the best poster boy Al Qaeda has is the idiot in residence in our White House... who has proven bin Laden to be a prophet.
Maybe, if we fought to kill the terrorists, and didn't attack countries that weren't a part of the 9/11 attacks,
we could actually catch Osama and put him and his cronies down like the rabid beasts they are.
The US complains about other countries and their human rights records...
yet look at what they've done in Gitmo.... I don't think the US has the right to claim the moral high ground any more.
The US bitches about a breakdown in morals and family values...yet look at who gets paid what... the people that get paid the most in this society are often the people I'd least want as a role model for children. Britney, Paris, Barry Bonds, etc... are famous and well paid...but most have the common sense of an ant and the morals of a syphilitic alley cat.
The Massachusetts government wants to make it illegal to spank children... and while I am completely against child abuse, and violence in general... I still think sometimes a kid needs a swat on the ass.
Over half the people in US jails now are there for drug charges... non-violent drug charges... why not legalize drugs... This would do a lot to make them less of a societal problem. You wouldn't have to worry about them being contaminated or tainted...since you could buy "brand name" legal drugs. You could put a tax on them, like the ones on tobacco and alcohol, to help offset the costs to society... you'd spend a hell of a lot less on arresting, prosecuting and imprisoning drug addicts and dealers... There'd probably be a lot less violence, since dealing would be legal, and subject to the same laws as selling alcohol or tobacco... It would also get rid of a lot of the crime associated with drugs currently... no dealers... no turf wars... no smuggling... etc... It would generate a fair amount of revenue... look at alcohol and tobacco taxes... and probably lower the price of drugs... as well as make it less of a temptation to idiot children who start doing drugs because they are illegal... You'd think that the government would have learned from Prohibition.
This isn't very PC... but it isn't meant to be.

Just a piece meant to make you think a bit.
