More Canadian craziness

Although it should be said that, with a little tweaking of the US laws, it could be happening here. For those unfamiliar with the case, the book in question is a NY Times best seller, and Mr. Steyn has the temerity to say such things as, if the Saudi's are our allies, who needs enemies?

This is what unfortuantely happens when you set up a human rights commision within a country renowned for, well, defending human rights. Eventually, some or many, crackpots are going to take your commision and use it against you.

I certainly share his opinion about the "roll over and die" Spanish.
It was the most Chamberlainesque capitulation in the face of raw evil I have ever seen.
Hey guys, lest have a bunch of cut-throats decide out foreign policy by killing us in Spain.

Europe, especially the Netherlands, is going through the same type of thing that Canada is. You set up a very open and liberal society with such overly introspective institutions like human rights commisions and eventually you're going to get a group of immigrants, who stand completely against this culture of openness, in these cases Muslim, who are going to come in, take advantage of the openness and then shove it up the butts of the indigenous citizens. The Netherlands cannot protect you if you're either gay or critical of Islam, Canada will apparently prosecute you for the latter.

Americans should not feel to self-satisfied; with the direction of hate-crimes legislation and multi-culturalism in the US it won't be long before Ramsey Clark and the boys dream up our own human rights commission.

You've got me there, Cap'n. (g) I'll grant you I did have the tiniest, most fleeting thought about my word selection there. But then I thought, "Nah, nobody'll even notice". I meant the idea, just not the full idea, if you get my meaning. (g)

That's probably what MacLeans thought too, "Nobody reads Steyn, nobody will even notice."

To your distress I'm sure, you know that MacLeans is in the business of making money and so would desire to publish something that will be read. Seeing as how the article seems to be their most read in their history as well as being excerpted from a book that sat atop the NY Times best seller list for a good portion of the year, I think it got noticed.
