DVD Ripping - help.

Wombat has only just about caught up with CD copying technology so please excuse this poor old luddite's ignorance.

Do any of you technowizards out there rip DVDs ? If so what software do you use and is it freely available ?

Of course I would never consider ripping copyright material. Oh no that would be an offence against the bottom line of the industry and I wouldn't want to do that now would I ?

It would help if you said what kind of computer you had... since the software you can use is going to be different, depending on the CPU/OS/Platform.

On a Mac, you can use Handbrake. On a PC, running various flavors of windows... you can use Alcohol 120%.

Aha I knew the Dog would be there for your old Wombat.

But I did forget he was one of those nutjobs with a fruit fixation. Figures, he needs training wheels on his boat so I guess having three buttons on a mouse would be oh so confusing.

It's a PC running Windows XP btw, so I guess its Overproof Rum for me.

Any time... I make my living using Wintel machines...but don't see any point in inflicting them on myself in my free time.

Dawg...do those programs rip copyguarded DVD's? I would like to make backup copies of some I legitimately own.

Yes...

Even though technically, it is illegal for them to do so... since it violates DMCA. You'll need about 4-9 GB of Hard Drive space per DVD and a dual-layer burner if you want to re-burn them to a DVD.
