Me at work...

This is funny...

I get a lot of PM's asking what I do for a living.

While I rather keep that private, I am posting a photo of me at work.

It is not what I do all the time, but most of the times, I am sitting in Hi-tech Control rooms, with my lap top on line, all the time. My favorite past time while I wait for "stuff happens", is sailnet, which explains my long hours online.

Here is my "office"...I do it 8 to 9 months a year, the rest of the time I am home, with my family and sailing. And sailnet is often OFF.

Alex

It doesn't look like you're doing anything for a living but drinking coffee.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Yup...I actually do...People pay me to look at their stuff...really.

here is a story for you:

One day a man had a dishwasher that did not work, several service men were called and no one could not fix it, see, the machine used too much soap and water, and some plates were not being cleaned...the owner was spending a fortune is water and soap...

Then this quiet guy was recommended, a small man, with no hair...but at a cost, his rates are double of what the other men chraged, and you needed to wait weeks sometimes months, to get this guy to just show up to troubleshoot.

Well, the owner finnally called the small man, he comes in, closes the door, and comes back 2 days later...the machine was now fully repaired, using only 80% of the soap, and the water came out cleaner, and used much less water. The plates were never as clean as they were now...

So a few weeks later, the owner gets the bill...WOW!!!! $2000 ?????? to fix my machine???

He sends a fax to the small man and says:

"Dear small hairless machine fixing man, I knew your rates were exhorbitant, and I kne you could fix it, and am very pleased with my machine. I already saved $2000 in soap and water, and the local EPA sent me a check for $50 for keeping my water clean....

But you are chgarging me $2000 for your work?? how??? please send detaild invoice of your work.

Regards, dishwasher owner"

The reply from the small hairless dishwasher man was:

"dear dishwasher owner, here is detailed invoice:

Turning 1 screw 3 times to the right ..... $ 1.00
Knowing what screw to turn..................$ 1.999.00

Signed

Dishwasher consultant"

Not that I repair dishwashers!!!

I hear ya Alex. I'm kinda in the same boat or racket if ya prefer, in the Software business. There are probably 30 people in the US that can do what I do and 28 of them are with large Corps and not available. It makes for a smiling trip to the bank and a busy schedule.

The only difference is I know crap about computers and software..

Believe it or not I am computer challenged. Do you know how many times I call SD or Cam about computer things?? I only know Word, and Xcell, and eecentely photoshop and Windows movie maker. That's all. I actually get the IT people set me up every time I arrive at a new place.

Its amazing, but computers don't mean didly squat to me..and software is something I really didn't understand...I know it comes in a disc, and tell my laptop what to do...

I also don't understand why I have to buy it and when it does not work and you complaint, they tell you to get it online for free....
