Ben Stein's new movie

Ben Stein's new movie is aimed four square at what he describes as "big science". I suspect it will add to the current debate on the nature of scientific inquiry and that, more than a few, scientists are not going to like the attention.

Watch the trailer, but be sure to check out the "News" page. There's a wealth of info there. The article on pigs with wings alone is well worth reading, especially if one is curious as to what science and the scientific method are all about. Those with interest in either Global Warming or Intelligent Design will find much of a distressing nature in how the scientific method has been corrupted. Personally, I think it dates to the involvement of government in scientific research, but I'm sure others will have other interesting ideas on the topic.

One thing is for sure; this doesn't look like it's going to be your standard Michael Moore drive-by shooting of a documentary topic.

RAGNAR will become famous soon enough
The Argument From Complexity, the name given to the notion that what we consider complex at present necessitates a Creator, is so flawed an argument that the Smithsonian should ban science writers that treat it as if it merits discussion in scientific circles.

Of course the Smithsonian isn't an advocate of Truth, no government operation really is, but that's immaterial to the issue of whether or not Intelligent Design should get space in an intellectual journal.

Banning discussion is generally considered antithetical to the scientific method, for what it's worth. (g)

Banning discussion of the POSSIBLE is antithetical to science. That people with science credentials look at the data and speak of Intelligent Design is indicative of how low that profession has sunk.

Religionists looking for a veneer of reason is nothing new. That such POVs are written about by people with alleged credentials is yet another sign of the Apocalypse.

ADDENDUM TO #6:

Should journals publish the opinions of children or the mentally handicapped for serious consideration by the relevant profession's intellectuals? Would an editorial policy that bans such "pieces" be antithetical to the progress of any field?

Ben Stein's movie "Expelled" comes out today

Ben Stein's new movie is in theaters today and it's on the topic of evolution and intelligent design. Those following the global warming thread will find many similar characters here as well.
A review of the movie:Dave Berg on Expelled on National Review Online

One of the most controversial portions of the movie is the discussion of Hitler's version of social Darwinism. More on that here: David Klinghoffer on Hitler & Darwin on National Review Online

I expect that this movie will resonate more with viewers than with the critics. We live in an age where science itself has become politicized and no where has this been so than the university campus. One of the points of the film is that, contrary to the scientific method, there can be no debate as to evolution's authenticity. Another achievement is the exposing of the religion of atheism. I expect that this film will be discussed throughout most of the summer. Despite the intensity of the debate I still like Tom Bethell's request, "Tell me one thing about evolution that you know to be true".

I dunno.....seems to me history is pretty well populated with facts that were once considered impossible by the scientists at one point.
Manned flight, as one example.
sailing around the world, perhaps more apropos.

Mr. Stein's movie will likely pass quickly. It will get little attention from the media and the theatre owners will pull it after a brief run no matter if there is interest.
