How much is a billion?/New Orleans
From another site:
Quote:
The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money. A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective.
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans. It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division . .
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans. Interesting number, what does it mean?
A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.
B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.
Washington, D.C .. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken??

I would take A. and then subtract the children, the socially not so desired citizens, the elderly and hopefully a few more. That would then leave the local politicians and the "upper class" a bit more of the pie.

Ragnar-
According to the Bible, Jesus died at the age of thirty something. A billion minutes equals 1901.2333 years. Therefore, Jesus died more than a billion minutes ago.
Other than that, your quote ain't bad.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

If it hadn't been for Bush stealing the election, Katrina wouldn't have destroyed N.O. and none of this would be necessary. It's all Bush's fault.

I hate when people make simple,ie, dishonest mistakes in order to make a point through numbers.
Here's where they may have twisted things:
60mins/hr x 24hrs/day x 30days/month x 12 months/yr, shortens the number of minutes in a year just enough for a billion minutes to be 1929 years, which gets us to the days of Jesus IF you run backwards from 1959.
Stupid, but this is where we are, flash over substance.

How does the military industrial complex, the Zionists, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Rocerrfellers, the vast Right Wing Conspiracy, and Armageddon play into all this?

I see no indication that leap year's were accounted for in those calculations. (g)
I spent a rather disagreeable hour or so watching Bab's Boxer and Bernie Sanders marking up the climate change bill in Senate committee last night. The striking features of the proceedings were the consensus among Bab and friends that the science was accepted, period. Discussion over. The new Senator from Louisiana, Mr Vitter, was chastised for having the temerity to think that an 80% reduction in emissions was going to have a negative effect on industry in his state. Babs Boxer assured him that the jobs in the green industry, the CO reduction industry, would more than supplant those lost by industry. She said it with a straight face, and later cited Britain as an example. Voinivich of Ohio later tried to assert that the bill was the "largest intrusion of government into private industry in history" and Bab's went bat-****. OK, it was late at night and I really should have been in bed instead of watching C-Span.
While congress is in session, nobody's wallet is safe.

I calculated this by 1,000,000,000 / (60 min/hour * 24 hour/day * 365.26 days/year, which accounts for most of the leap year messiness. )

Dog,
Head down to the Food King. They've got "lives" on sale in produce, right next to the romaine lettuce. (g)
