I use Front page which is a program. It took me some time to work with it, but now, I am happy that I did.

Sand...that is a $150 software program for Website design from Microsoft. Are you going to be designing your own website and hosting it under a domain name like sandsailor.com....or are you looking more for someplace where you can "blog"...write some thoughts and post some pictures?
If the latter...this might be of interest:

Are you on a PC or a Mac. There are some very good HTML editing/web design programs out there... some are commercial, like Dreamweaver, others are shareware, like Stylemaster, and some are freeware. I would avoid the ones from Microsoft, since the HTML they generate are generally very hard to edit and read like crap.

If you really want help, PM me with details on what you're trying to do, and what equipment you have.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Good work, sandsailor! Simple is better for most sites.

If you're looking to put text beside pictures, using a table to split the two elements might be one option to try.

That being said, I'm certainly no expert, and I've never been a member of a forum without at least one expert webmonkey...

I wouldn't use tables... they're pretty old technology as websites go. Using a good CSS-based design, as you're doing will give you far more flexibility than a tables-based design. Also, CSS-based designs generally do better in google ranking. For an amazing example of the power of a CSS-based website, I'd recommend you look at the CSS Zen Garden website.

What exactly are you trying to do? Also, what software are you using. It looks like you took one of the CSS templates that are available on the web for the basic design of your site thus far.

BTW, I think you would be better off having the clicking on the photos open the photos in a separate window, since it makes navigating and browsing your site a lot simpler. For an example, look at how the photo thumb nails on this page work.

I wanted to get into web design at one point (as a hobby) and purchased a couple programs, including FrontPage. However, it didn't take long for me to realize that I simply don't have the time to work on a complicated website. I've used Yahoo Sitebuilder for my site and, while it isn't great, it's very adequate for simple sites. My website is in my signature if you want an example.
