How bad is the weather out West?

The weather reports would lead me to believe you guys out West are getting hit pretty hard. Just wondering how bad it is.

Here we consider below 40 at night and below 60 during the day as very cold during the "winter" months (Dec/Jan/Feb). We've not had frost, snow or similar for more than 75 yrs., but 2008 could be the one.

Here our current weather.

We have had a long series of low pressure systems parading across the Pacific in the past few weeks. Plenty of precipitation and a steady cycles of gale to storm force winds. The forecasts have not been terribly accurate in their time frame, but what they are threatening eventually turns up.

If you want to keep an eye on what's happening, here are a couple of links:

This:
http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/marine/region_04_e.html
will give you the conditions at most lighthouses/buoys on the southern inner BC coast (click on the numbered stations)

This: http://www.katkam.ca/ is a web cam view of English Bay, Vancouver. (our boat is in the marina to the left in the view most days. The camera is panned about now and then)

Had a good blow again last night, seems to be down but more rain is on the way. The jetstream is taking a deep dive south, though, so temps are mild, 8 - 10C.the last couple of days.

At least the boat is still in the water!

Faster- thanks for the links, hadn't seen those before. We use the NOAA data buoy site and the Washington Ferry winds, also the Island Cam site.

Were having pretty bad weather too.

Swell is now at 15 feet breaking. Rain, rain and more rain.

A race today was cancelled. Fred's race was too.

My daughter was in California visiting some family. I am glad she is on her way back home to New Jersey today.

That's a good site for us here (the first link) On that page are other links to the north and outer coast buoys as well. The data is relatively fresh. Also, if you do some digging, from here you can print .pdf files of the Canadian Govt tide book - and there are stations there unavailable in the paper copy.

Here's that link:
http://www.waterlevels.gc.ca/english...Ang.shtml#Vol5

Saves you buying the book if you know you only need certain areas for a short trip.

We like the web cam - we can check conditions on the Bay before we leave the house!

Snow in the Sierras

We have gotten about 3 ft of snow at Mammoth Mtn. The winds were not as bad as predicted on the East side of the Sierras, but San Francisco got slammed pretty hard. So Cal got a lot of rain too. We are looking for more tonight, but without the epic conditions previously forecast. Deep powder and thin crowds today- time to go.
