Castro Steps Down

Just heard on CNN that Castro has stepped down. WOW! Hopefully changes will come...

Easy Dad, watch the BP...

He's just a feeble old gentleman who, although somewhat politically misguided, hasn't personally shot anyone in years.

Here is a comment from another blog - which I will happily plagiarize:

Say what you want about the old commie bastard but what man hasn't dreamed of ruling a tropical island full of beautiful women, the world's best cigars, and damn fine rum with an iron fist for half a century ?

Good riddance.

Hey, and Musharif (SP?) lost the election in Pakistan. Now if Bush would just resign...three for three! Great day! And it's only Tuesday - what wonders will the rest of the week hold?

Nothing will change with his brother in power.....maybe a revolt. Do you think the U.S. will actually lift the sanctions? Not for a long time, if ever.

The devil in this world is Bush, not Castro. At least Casto admits leading a communist country.

You gotta wonder what the Cubans are thinking at this point.

Cruising Dad,

Perhaps it's time to move this thread over to "Off Topic" as some of the comments are not of "General Interest", and have nothing to do with sailing.

I have heard his brother raul who is now in charge is an alcoholic. Makes me think there has to be a power behind the throne somewhere if he really is drunk all the time. We can hope that when the old man dies there will be a power struggle that might provide an opening for real change.

Canadians say it is a great place to cruise. My brother went fishing there during the time when it was OK for US citizens to go - said it was fantastic. I would really love for them to kick out the govt. and get a new one.
