DayLite Savings Time

It is early this year, next weekend, March 9, if I am not mistaking.

Thank the Bush Regime for that... they changed the weekends that Daylight Savings Time kicks in and out... to "save energy"....which I don't believe has any technical merit behind it.

From a DST webpage:

Quote:
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. beginning in 2007, though Congress retained the right to revert to the 1986 law should the change prove unpopular or if energy savings are not significant. Going from 2007 forward, Daylight Saving Time in the U.S.
  • begins at 2:00 a.m. on the second Sunday of March and
  • ends at 2:00 a.m. on the first Sunday of November
In most of the countries of Western Europe, including the countries that are members of the EU, Daylight Saving Time:
  • begins at 1:00 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday of March and
  • ends at 1:00 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday of October
Of course, a lot of embedded controllers in machines and such haven't been updated, so the times they will be recording will be wrong during the early and later parts of Daylight Savings Time.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

The President doesn't enact legislation, the Congress does. The most a president can do is propose.

In a triple-shift world that works around the globe, Daylight Slavings Time makes even less sense than ever. Besides, Hillary and Bill promised to repeal DST when he first ran for office, and after eight years they still didn't get it done. Can blame Bush for that one.

[weg]

Would it really make ANY difference, if we all just ran on GMT and you knew you had to work from "1300 to 2100" while I knew I had to work from "2300 to 0800" in some other part of the world? So you get used to "lunch" being some arbitray number...Oh, wait a minute, that could be TWELVE too, couldn't it?

The real purpose of Daylight Slavings Time is simply to addle everyone's brains, so they won't have time to deal with Real Life. Like, riding politicians out of town on split rails.
