How many of you belong to Yacht Clubs

Ok, since we're in tell all mode these days, how many of you belong to Yacht Clubs? If you do is it a club of good old boys or is it a more formal type,i.e. blue blazers required?

No yacht club for me. We considered it, but we actually get better ammenities at our marina and have a pretty tight community there. We don't race either.

Nope...neither. Used to be a member of the OPBYC, but haven't been since I got my boat.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Our boats were always slipped at a private marina, where we made many friends from a very diverse group of boaters. I've always thought myself to be too much of a flip-flop maverick to belong to the local Yacht Club crowds . . . considering that most of the Yachties around here, are the stuffed-shirt, NY Yacht Club types "trying" to be Newportant.

Besides, my wife's name isn't Buffy.

Sacrilege: Many of my best boating friends own stinkpots. In fact, my marina only has about 5 total sailboats (including mine) out of about 200 total boats.

Our current Marina is just like being a member of a club.
We have just as many amenities at our marina as any old club can offer.
That being said, I am a member of an informal gathering of boaters.

We call ourselves the "Poor Man's Yacht Club."
We have no buildings or grounds or club house. We do have regular monthly meetings (usually just to get together and do some drinking). We gather at the same spot almost every weekend and try and plan cruising weekends together. It is a lot of fun.

Check us out here..... Welcome to the Poor Man's Yacht Club, Monroe Harbor

Clube Naval de Cascais for me and Clube Naval de Lisboa for Fred...for obvious reasons.

No ties, no tucked shirt, but no barefoot either. The concept of sailing club here is a little different from the concept you guys have in the US.

Here they are like sports associations since to race you need a club
