Speaking of Asses, and being full of crap!

The responses to Codmander's UFO/USO post were uniformly (although typically) adolescent and dismissive. A topic that would have been interesting, if unusual, was immediately degraded to the boy's club making inside jokes at the expense of the poster. The fact that they were not directly aimed at him is irrelevent. By turning his perfectly direct post into an inside joke, you belittled him, and although I did not get a chance to read his response, I can understand why he made it. Your adnoidal humor is perfectly legal, it is a free Internet after all. And you certainly are a tight group. But it is no wonder that repeat posts on this site are limited to a few dozen regulars. The world's largest online sailing community is really pretty small when you look at it closely.

Not having posted, nor read the thread in question, I can't comment directly to it. While you might be raising a self-fulling phropecy, that is certainly your perogative, just as expressing your own opinions is.

Unless something is particularly egregious, I try not to comment in a serious way about what other's do here. I have more than enough to do, just minding my own business, much less being anyone's keeper.

Nothing wrong with making a point if you feel it's necessary. Everyone has their own standards, and mine aren't necessarily yours or anyone elses.

You're ok in my books Bardo. There is just as much humor as there is sailing info sometimes on this site. Part of the reason I love it.

Bardo, I think that given the circunstances, when comparing with other sites, and albeit the joking around, the level of provided information and reponse to questions here is pretty high...try asking a question in SA...and see what you get...or go to Boatdesign, and be prepared to be shown all the "credentials" of the boat maker wannabes, with copy paste answers and typical text book replies....and there is worse..

The humour here is far and large a major attraction, as well as is the friendship and support...That I can tell you...

I've met many many here personally and not personally....to me that is good and enough...
and why I am here too. Not to joke around, but also to amuze myself with some posts I read, be quastions or answers....

But it is the net, and we benefit the fact that we are all anonymous...but I see many people checking in and reading...

and a large quantity sign in and post....there are those that stay, those that come and go, many many do that, and those that come ask a question and don't come back again or don't even thank for the help...

Its the later 2 types that kill things, not the regulars...

Plus...I am guilty as charged of joking around, hijack threads and piss people off....but I can't resist....

But ask me a pretinent question, I guarantee you get my best answer....if I don't know, I don't answer...and the rest will do the same....

However...ask a question that you could have gotten an answer by using the cells in the cranial box, and the box to joke gets oopen....human nature....

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Bardo,
Adding to Giu's comments. Sometimes there are posts that piss people off(I never gets pissed at Giu's posts, I'm too busy learning or laughing), sometimes people let us know they're pissed off, sometimes they don't. In the end offense is seldom taken and it's what makes the reading here so interesting.
