Another Rosenthal piece

I think I have posted some photos of NY sculpturer Randall Rosenthal's work here before. He just sent me a photo of his latest piece, titled "Lunch Money" as a tongue-in-cheek comment on the state of the US dollar I think.

Can you believe everything in this photo ( except the shadow) is carved from one solid block of wood, and then hand painted?

If you are interested in this kind of stuff, check out his website:
Wood Sculptures by New York Sculptor Randall Rosenthal

Incredible stuff. I do so enjoy having talented friends, although it does tend to make me feel rather useless in my own feeble woodworking.

Absolutely amazing work and talent. I see he does architectural work as well - good resource for those "special" clients. Thanks for sharing.

This is one he did for us:

(panga is the basic hull design for the power boat we chose after I agonized over choices for about a year)

Again, all one block of wood.

To see the really good stuff, you should check out his web site.

I imagine his "Legal Pad" series is very popular. I got a kick out of Van Gogh, check out the wood graining running through the piece . . .

This railing's not too shabby either -

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
