Liberals talk, Conservatives act

Robert F. Kennedy said, "There are those who look at things the way they are and ask why...I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?"

That might be one of the most animating of liberal statements ever made. It's too bad it seems to amount to no more than words to the majority of it's adherents. Liberals are good with the words, not so good at putting their money behind their rhetoric. Conservatives are much better at thinking charitably and acting monetarily. And the most generous of those conservatives are those religious "nut cases". Liberals are content, not "apparently content", to inventory our list of problems. Conservatives are quietly spending their own money to address those problems. And the next time you hear somebody decrying the religious right in America, try to remember that they're actually talking about the most generous segment of American society. The segment that puts it's money where others only put their mouth.

I dont know about that...

Seems Liberals have most of the money thats thrown away in huge chunks to causes like Gay and Animal rights...Some Microsoft guy just left 45 mill to them or something like that...

I always wondered why there arnt more wealthy conservatives matching gifts like that to say Right to life or One Man One woman causes..Maybe they do and the media just dosent print it..but you dont ever hear about it..

Wonderful article, thanks S'way.

From the article:
Quote:
If many conservatives are liberals who have been mugged by reality, Brooks, a registered independent, is, as a reviewer of his book said, a social scientist who has been mugged by data. They include these findings:

-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).
Stillraining,
Big money lib's donate via a media circus. I suggest big money non-liberals just donate, no circus need attend or know.

What makes that statement even more enteresting is that Kennedy was considerable less liberal than many the leftist nuts we see today.

Liberals are good with the words, not so good at putting their money behind their rhetoric.

They are very good at wanting to OUR (tax payers) money where their mouth is.

Conservatives think that individuals know what is best for them and know how best to invest/spend their money.

Liberals think that they know what is best for everyone and know how best to spend everyone's money.

jkz..Hmmm...I know what your trying to say here...but the flaw in this statement is even though true conservatives want smaller and less governmental control..they also recognize the fact that Man does not know what is good for him and will choose porley if left to his own devices...Gods plan for us is perfict and we fail to follow it 90% of the time...so I cant agree that individuals always know whats best for them...Example...Pornography has devistated core family values..the availability of easy access to it now via the internet has secured that fate forever...That is not what I would call good for anyone yet you will have tons of so called conservatives disagree on that one...why because we like it and want to justify it...

If I could be King for a day Id shut it all down...That would be good for everyone...Very unpopular but good non the less..God said so...argue with him not me...I like a bare boob just as much as the next guy but any one other then my wifes is not good for me...You can argue till the cows come home that it dosent affect you...but it does and you know it... ( If only my wife could have that body ) Bingo!!

I'll suggest that an even bigger problem is that we're having an arguement like this at all. Right v. Left, Red v. Blue, Neo v. Marx - it's rediculous. How about this - America v. any and everybody sending jobs offshore, not thinking of the entire country (including Vermont) when they make "National" decisions, stuffing federal bills with local crap to get on local news back home come October. I could keep going, but you get the point. Our boats got a leak, and instead of fixing it we're throwing buckets of water at eachother. Brillant idea.

Good point. Now if the liberals can just be convinced to let the conservatives fix the leak. Oh wait, they have their own idea on how to fix the leak. Back to the water fight.

Apparently the deciding factor for conservatives are their religious beliefs. The least generous segment of the population are the secular conservatives, the implication possibly being that, to be a well rounded conservative, it's very desirable to have faith in a higher power.
