Massive Frustration

Our web host for our website, Register.com, has been just awful recently, in my opinion. The site has been down now two weekends in a row for just about an entire morning. We just had articles come out in Cruising World and Lats&Atts, and now if someone tried to access the site last Sunday morning or this morning, they wouldn't get to it. Moreover, now we no longer are on Google's index because, according to them it appears most likely, that when its web crawler has crawled our site it was down. Plus, I get no explanation at all when I call Register.com. Essentially, I'm told by some customer service rep that the site is down for maintenance, they have no further information, have no idea when it will come back up, and there's no one who can give me any additional information.

My apologies to anyone who tried to access our site and has had difficulty. If anyone has had a good experience with a web host, please let me know, as I may very well be in the market for a new one . . .

Dump register.com

I have registered my domain name with godaddy for 4 years now and recently started hosting my site with them too. No problems so far. The only issue is the site is set up for self service and tech support is not toll free. Considering the pricing, I don't mind paying for the call, and if I wait till 9pm, my cell calls are all free anyway.

Ditto the rec for GoDaddy. I don't like their name (sounds like a porn site to me) or their insipid logo, but from a technical and value standpoint they do deliver.

StartLogic is another alternative you might look into. Been with them 2+years without any problems.

Thanks

I'm going to look into them. The site finally came up, but I really am frustrated.

One "problem" I have about is that I did the site myself with Register.com's do it yourself program, so I'm not sure how easy it will be to migrate the content. It was tons of work both in drafting the copy and getting through all the mechanics of links, both internal and external, uploading pix, etc. One of my new projects now, as if I need this, is to see if one of the other hosts has the ability to help with the migration.

Thanks again for the references.
