Ahhh, Baseball returns

Opening Day tomorrow. The official music of boat projects everywhere, the game on AM radio, heralds not only the grand old game's return but the knowledge that sailing cannot be far off. If "pitchers and catchers report" is the baseball fan's sign that winter indeed has it's limits, opeing day is the sailor's sign that open water is just around the corner as well. Go get 'em, Tigers!

Herewith the required George Will column saluting the event:

Well, seeing how the brilliance of my football prediction turned out in the "football Already?" thread, I'll go out on a limb and say Mets, M-E-T-S, Mets, Mets! Wouldn't want to strain myself by having to type too many different letters instead of "Jets".

Everyone knows the American League has better baseball than the National League. Except for the Red Sox, who suck and are evil.

Yes sir they sucked the life out of every team they played and then drank from the evil trophy.

Well concidering my team lost 90 games last year after only two years removed from winning the World Series, I am going to be a silent fan until they prove themselves again. (Go White Sox!)

Funny thing about the Cub Fans, they have been saying the same thing for the past 100 years.

bubb2,

i think you're right about the Cubs, it's been 100 years since their last World Series. And the MLB single game strikeout king is your closer! This may be the year, go Cubs.

Subway Series!!

BTW...did everyone see the attendance at the opening day Dodgers game in the LA coliseum? the played in the coliseum to commemorate (read MOURN) the move from Ebbets field to LA FIFTY years ago...I still have my 1957 baseball...Koufax, Campenella, Hodges, Snyder, Reese, Drysdale et al....a classic team for the ages that left the knothole gang for soul-less LA due to the hutzpah of the anti-Christ Walter O-Malley!!

Anyway...the attendance was 115,000!! A new all-time major league record.
