Cruisingdad is a jewel in the rough Cruisingdad is a jewel in the rough Cruisingdad is a jewel in the rough
CD Get's message from Tayana 'Thieves'!!!!

Yes, it is true. They have been contacting me. Given that I am a thoughtful moderator who never wants to stir up trouble, I decided to go ahead and post it all here.

Dear CD,

I feel we should explain what happened and ask for some pity from your fellow sailors - so they will know the rest of the story.

We bought our Tayana... ahhh, a beautiful boat. We dropped her in the ocean ready to see the world. And we did... one knot at a time. You just don't understand what it is like, going one knot under full sail even in 30kts of wind... watching your life pass by your eyes. It took us 6 years to make our trip to the bahamas (we incidentally met another 50+ foot Tayana that took them six years too).

Being at sea that long will do things to a man. It makes your mind wander to dreadful and unclean things. As such, we decided to sell the boat and buy a travel trailor or motor home... or anything that can go faster than algae grows. I know, CD, it is a terrible dicslosure.... but breathing diesel fumes for 6 years just does things to you. Please forgive us. BUT THAT IS THE END OF WHAT WE DID WRONG!

We met this guy from Rhode Island to try and push the boat off on him. He offered $1,000 cash (because we had two handheld GPS' on board and a sextant). He said he knows where he could get FOUR handheld GPS' but NO SEXTANT on a 50+ foot Tayana. I was appaled. WHo in the world would sail a round-the-world boat with no sextant?? At any rate, I reminded him that this is a Tayana and worth much more than $1,000. He offered $1,100. Given the cost of the diesel that it would take us to motor back, we accepted.

Then his surveyor showed up. IT was a Paul something or other. He looked like he was in a really bad mood. He was all bruised up and flinched every time his wife (a Cuban I think) walked by. He said he would pass the boat with flying colors if we gave his daughter a ride back to the states. Well, I am sorry, but I just don't barter like that or get into internal disputes. I refused AND HIS WIFE BEAT ME UP!!! Can you believe that!!??? After three days in the hospital, I woke up and found them standing over me - threatening me with a week in the bed next time. I had to agree. I had no choice.

Then that night, when they were not looking, we threw off the lines and motored out of the harbor (one knot at a time). We thought that was the end of it. But he hired this bounty hunter to come after us. He caught up to us in his canoe and threatened to kill us if we did not bribe him. THis guy was the wierdest of all... he laughed all the time and (even wierder) kept talking about buying this boat with two hulls. Everyone knows that a real sailor does it with one hull. I told him this. The guy started jumping up and down, pulling out his hair!!!!! HE WAS BALD IN MINUTES!!!! Then he looked at us and said he was going to pluck us bald if we did not hand over the cash so he could buy his multihull.

We had to. We were out of options. He jumped in his canoe and left. So there we were, out in the middle of the harbor, no diesel money, escaping as fast as we could under sail (1 knot at a time), trying to seek protection and hide in the mean time.

Now the bank wants us to give the boat back. The Cuban and her husband are still trying to track us down. The Rhode Island guy claims that he was the rightful buyer and threatens us with his hit man again... ohh... we are in a bad spot. Please forgive us for our wrongs. It was a matter of life, death, and going bald.

Regards,

The Tayana Owners

My Response:

Sorry, buddy, but I have changed my mind after the long debate on the thread. You are a POS and should go bald and die. Luck has run out on you.

His Response:

I am sorry you still feel that way. I hoped my story would change your mind. Luckily somebody has offered to help us. He says he can help us hide and has this little basement that we will be safe in.

My Response:

Who in their right mind would offer you sanctuary on Sailnet!!??? They are just going to turn you in. What is his name!!??

His response:

No he wont't. He gave us his word. His name is Sailhog and he told us to dress like farm animals (specifically sheep) so no one would spot us. Though he did laugh this wierd laugh afterwards...

I am not really sure how to respond now. I am not sure which is the worse punishment?? Being beat up by the Cuban, plucked clean by the hit man, ripped off by the guy in Rhode Island, being put in Sailhog's basement, or being stuck on a boat running one knot in a stiff breeze.

How should I advise him. My position has changed again. I feel sorry for him after all.

- CD

Why does that make me think of a doctor saying this won't hurt a bit? Or a car salesman saying it's the best deal on the lot? A politician saying they are not a crook? Hmmmmm.....

Dear Chuckles,
We just wanted to let you know that we originally contacted a ‘moderator’ on sailnet with our story hoping he would tell those few people that still cared the truth. After seeing how he completely altered our story in a sad, insane and twisted fashion trying for humor (which he is obviously unsuited to write) we decided to write you instead.
Please convey an accurate version of our story to those who will still give a damn.
When we first purchased our boat we only had experience sailing on lakes and rivers. We thought out boat was just fine for that. Then we we hit the ‘big water’ and discovered that our ‘perfect boat’ was in fact missing a hull. We called the manufacture and request a warranty repair and were told to grow up and deal with it. Can you imagine that? So we decided that we’d only pay what we thought was a reasonable value for the boat. Actually we calculated we had already done them a favor by taking this obviously defective product off their hands.
Please make sure that the readers out there who may be looking into purchasing a Tayana know that they must make sure both hulls are delivered else once they take delivery of this half boat the manufacturer will not fix it.
We are in fact living the dream so many of you wish you could afford to live. We found that the best way to be able to afford our life style was to not pay bills if we could possibly skip out. Still, all in all it has been a trying time for us. Have you ever tried to barter time for a decent hair stylist? Oops, sorry of course you haven’t.
Signed
You know who, you know where

I think CD- has a lot more in common with these people than he wants to admit!
