al-Maliki's victory

You probably didn't read it that way in your newspaper. You probably read about the continuing fecklessness of the Iraqi government. But then those are probably the same papers that told you the US and South VietNam lost on Tet as well! A sample of what is not being reported widely: IRAN'S BUSTED IRAQ BID - New York Post

Slate magazine's take on how the NYT "reported" the story.

Reading the NYT accounts one might think that the battle within Basra and the flare-ups in Baghdad were more signs of the terminal weakness of Al-Maliki and the Iraqi government. Reality is that the Iraqi army kicked some Sadr ass and he was forced to sue for peace, yet again. The below piece is about as withering a criticism as you'll see from one liberal organ towards another.
The week's weakest Iraq story. - By Mickey Kaus - Slate Magazine

Good to see Sway's back on the reservation.

Heard Sadr has like eight wives, and they're all ten years old... Don't worry. I've already called the Baghdad PD...

PB's here. He wants to know how old your wife is too...
