Obama and the 2nd amendment

Got my issue of Freedom 1st today put out by the NRA. A little article on what Obama says on the 2nd amendment and what he actually does.

From the article:

Hale DeMar lives in Wilmette Illinois. On Dec 28, 2003, he woke up and found that his house had been burglarized during the night while he slept. The thief stole keys, household items and his car. DeMar reported it to the police, who came and took a report and offered their condolences.

Next night, the thief came back, openning a door with the stolen keys. The alarm tripped. DeMar armed himself with a handgun, legally purchased and kept in a safe. He shot the burglar, who fled in the stolen vehicle, and went to the hospital where he was arrested.

The local prosecutor ruled the shooting justified. The village went after DeMar just the same for illegal possession of a handgun. Apparently the town banned handguns. The citizens of Illinois were so ticked off at this town that they passed state legislation protecting citizens from local towns going after them. Obama voted against the legislation. The governor vetoed it, the legislature voted again and over came the veto with Obama voting against it a second time. Obama also supported the D.C. gun ban currently being decided by the Supreme Court and he supports federal legislation banning concealed carry except for law enforcement.

So when Obama says he supports the second amendment I say "Liar, liar pants on fire."

Here's kind of an interesting article as a side note. Apparently gun owning citizens are happier and more charitable than citizens who don't own guns.

I heard concern among black voters on the news that they were afraid if Obama was elected, that he would be assassinated. That sucks.

While this is a gun control issue, it is not a 2nd Amendment issue.

The 2nd Amendment only applies to the Federal Government. It is not, and never was intended to be a limitation on the powers of the states. At the Constitutional Convention, the founders were not worried about their home colony banning guns, but rather that a Federal Government would become too powerful and oppressive.

As far as the gun control issue is concerned, everyone should have the right to protect their home.

Would not a taser be a whole lot more fun to shoot a burglar with?
Zap!
Do you like my car?
Zap!
Do you feel like visiting me again?
Zap!
How's that feel, kind of like your nerves are on fire?
Zap!
I always thought that
ZAP!
oh, surprized you with that one didn't I? I bet you were thinking I'd finish the sentence didn't
ZAP! ZAP! zaaaaaaaaaaaap!

Much more satisfaction. Now we just need a multiple shot tazer for when there are two of them.

I heard that distinction with the Washington D.C. case. For clarification, does that mean states can regulate your freedom of speech and religion if those aren't protected by your state's constitution? Can states require you to register and pass a background check before writing a letter to your local newspaper opinion section.
