Today's Wikipedia main article: The Ocean Sunfish

I saw this just now.

Ocean sunfish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Very interesting beast, and I think I'll give swordfish a miss from now on.

By the way, the Portuguese call this peixe lua, which means "moon fish". Typical!

(And yes, Alex, I know the aquarium at Lisbon has one in a big tank, but I didn't have time to see every tourist attraction in your country's capital!)

Anyone see this things lying at the surface, catching a few rays? (Or jellyfish?) Apparently, they can be mistaken for sharks, but they move in a different and easily recognized fashion.

I am not quite seeing how it can be confused for a shark... but it does have a full keel - and looks a bit like a Catalina...

just me tho maybe...

Well, a Shark is a Hunter, when it isn't a Hinterhoeller. (Warning: the preceding joke may be too obscure even for Sailnet.)

Poor kid .

Hey , those sunfish are quite common off the NSW coast and have been known to play merry hell with the racers in the Syd-Hob when they run into one.

ps - Why ????

Very interesting beast, and I think I'll give swordfish a miss from now on.

(Not that I am disagreeing with you ref eating Swordfish but what has that got to do with Sunfish ?)

Now there's an under-statement. Mobile speed-humps... the marine version of wombats!!

Those things could take the swing-keel off a fancy pocket-maxi before you even think to yell "shark!".
