No, that has pretty much been established.
The Rays have won their division and lead the championship series 3 to 2 after taking 2 out of three from the Red Sox at home.
They have a winning record against every AL team they played this year except the Indians, who they are 2-5 against, the Yankees 7-11, and the twins, 3-3. And none of them made it this far. They are 10-8 in inter-league play.
The play in arguably the toughest division in baseball and are 10-8 against the World Champs.
They lost a heartbreaker. No doubt about it. But you might have to give the Red Sox a little credit for that. The Rays actually played a pretty good game. The much questioned Kaz pitched a two hitter through 7 and the offense scored 7.
Just wasn't enough. The Red Sox are truly one of the great teams. They definitely are for real and have proved it.
As much as I find him irritating, has there ever been a player like Youkilis? That guy could teach Pete Rose something about hustle. Ortiz had to smack one sometime. I could go on and on.
The Rays were holding them down and had their foot on their throat but didn't get the kill.
The Red Sox have a great story. Francona is 9-1 in elimination game during his tenure.
The Rays have contributed another improbable, almost miraculous page in the Red Sox book.
But the Rays have a story too. They have been writing it all year and if they can win one game out of two at home then Thursday night's game will just be a footnote in the story of the no name, unlikely winners of the 2008 American League Championship Series.
The Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays are for real.
GO RAYS!!!!
