You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I wish I were going but that's definitely not in the budget. I did get to see one of the White Sox games though, thanks to a dear friend.

I've been to a bunch of regular season games. 9 dollar tickets for non premium games. Usually spend more on beer than tickets.
I wonder if the prices will go up for next year.

And guys, thanks for the sympathy and support . I'm getting a little misty here.

No, that has pretty much been established.

The Rays have won their division and lead the championship series 3 to 2 after taking 2 out of three from the Red Sox at home.
They have a winning record against every AL team they played this year except the Indians, who they are 2-5 against, the Yankees 7-11, and the twins, 3-3. And none of them made it this far. They are 10-8 in inter-league play.
The play in arguably the toughest division in baseball and are 10-8 against the World Champs.

They lost a heartbreaker. No doubt about it. But you might have to give the Red Sox a little credit for that. The Rays actually played a pretty good game. The much questioned Kaz pitched a two hitter through 7 and the offense scored 7.
Just wasn't enough. The Red Sox are truly one of the great teams. They definitely are for real and have proved it.
As much as I find him irritating, has there ever been a player like Youkilis? That guy could teach Pete Rose something about hustle. Ortiz had to smack one sometime. I could go on and on.
The Rays were holding them down and had their foot on their throat but didn't get the kill.

The Red Sox have a great story. Francona is 9-1 in elimination game during his tenure.
The Rays have contributed another improbable, almost miraculous page in the Red Sox book.

But the Rays have a story too. They have been writing it all year and if they can win one game out of two at home then Thursday night's game will just be a footnote in the story of the no name, unlikely winners of the 2008 American League Championship Series.
The Tampa Bay Rays.

The Rays are for real.

GO RAYS!!!!

From the department of blue skies, 'er, encouraging words accompanied by the soft strains of Home on the Range I offer the following:

The Rays had 'em down and allowed them a breath of fresh air. That against one of the best home teams in the league. They return home now confident that they just need to keep the hammer down. The Bosox on the other hand have had their invincible pitching staff strafed like a field of daisies and, dare we say it, miss Manny's punch immeasurably. The Ray's come out tonight loose and swinging easily. I predict a shelling of the Beantown boys. Tomorrow will be soon enough to be worried, if tomorrow ever comes in this particular case. Go Rays. (I'm shameless, but not a shameless frontrunner because the Rays have won nothing yet. Upon their winning I'll return to being a depressed Tiger's fan.)

They have won their division. But if that's as encouraging as you feel like being today, I'll take it.

We poor Phillies fans just have to sit and wait. Come on, get it over with so we know who we'll whip in the series.

Knotty,
I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news you already know in that the Rays lost last night. The good news is that Garza is pitching tonight and that Dog has come out to root for the Sox. As a dedicated Dog watcher I can tell you that this is a good sign; when Dog starts rooting the end is near. Dog is single handedly responsible for the collapse of the Patriots, the decline of the Bruins, was on vacation during the Celtic's run, is rumoured to have been John Francois Kerry's field operative on the piers of Buzzard's Bay and, most recently, has been the subject to allegations of being Madonna's next boy toy. With Dog on the case, you can start checking the Weather Channel for conditions in Philly.
