Sailing presidents?
Don't know why this thought came to mind - but I was wondering about which presidents were sailors (recreational rather than military)? JFK comes to mind - there were lots of pics of various Kennedys sailing at Hyannisport (and JFK was the other kind of sailor too). Any others?
I wonder if it is unlikely that a modern president would be a sailor since sailing takes up so much time that a politician needs to use if they want to be president (or a senator/governor/etc). Interesting that Bush is well-known for fitness activities and working around his property (surely all the brush has been cut by now), but we don't hear about the hobbies of McCain/Clinton/Obama (although Obama's bball gets some mention). I wonder if their handlers have decided that having hobbies/activities makes them seem unfocussed and frivolous?

Well, not my country, but to my knowledge both Roosevelts sailed and there was a doc on the other night showing the first Bush "unwinding" in Maine by blasting a three-outboard power boat around some cove.

Why am I not surprised that Bush would own a gas-guzzling power boat.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Maybe Sailnet can nominate someone to run as an independent. I think Giu is here enough they might not catch on that he's Portugese. I think he'd even consider Hillary as a running mate. Gotta go take my meds again, it's been a while.

I know why George H. Bush would need a power boat... he doesn't have the brains for figuring out how to handle a sailboat.

Joel,
That's absolutely it!! Now all we have to do is get him to agree. There's new hope for us and I won't have to vote for any of the nitwits now running.

Only one little problem with that... he's foreign born and can't be President without amending the US Constitution. Nice sticker though...
