They used to work on every car door. The newer lock arrangements make them less effective. A brick has suffered no loss in effectiveness by comparison.

There are more effective, and less primitive ways to open a car door. Quieter too..

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I do talk about sex with my girls..more in depth then you would probably believe..I tell them what I was like.. ...I have done this with all three at 12 to 13 years of age..But my way is the way of their father for their protection , not teaching about sex for the purpose of having sex, or them wanting to have it..Do I teach abstinence you bet it do!!!!

Hard to argue with that. I just wonder if in this world of instant gratification and instant communication such a place as a protected environment exists anymore.

While I was typing the above post...My youngest ( 13 ) came in and wanted to read me what she had just wrote..I asked if I could share it with you ...

Nellie’s Poem

Launching off the dock and out to the bay
Was going to be a glorious day
The ocean breeze and smell of seaweed
Came upon the boat

Eating my lunch with my juice and punch
A sailor who looked more like a pirate to me
Offered a drink on sea
I couldn't resist after all
He did insist.

Build the walls Alex you wont regret it....

My nephew, the smart U.S. Marine we're very proud of, bought a few parts at radio shack and had my wifes keyless Camry unlocked, open, and started in less that 30 seconds. He's a good honest kid. He just read on the net that it could be done and wanted to try for himself. I was both impressed . . . and spooked!

If you ever get locked out of your car try this

Have you ever locked your keys in the car? I know I have. Does your car have a remote keyless entry? At least one of my cars does. The following may come in handy someday - and it's reason enough to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and your spare remote is at home or with your spouse, call that person on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person on the other end (the one with the spare remote) press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Believe it or not, your car will unlock. I'd have never believed it if I hadn't tried it myself. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you, and distance is no object (but let me clarify -- if you're in Tokyo and for some reason the other remote is in Toronto, then unfortunately you ARE screwed). But if you are hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
I had Nimfy test it and it worked.

Sound to me like you are a great Dad. You apparently treat your kids as individuals while raising them by your own set of rules.
I think that is what Alex's goal is also.

I really do wish that we lived in a world that wasn't polluted by so many unsavory or downright disgusting examples of human nature at it's worst.

I really do wish that all fathers were as responsible as you and Alex seem to be.

I wish that things were as pure and safe now as they were when I was a child. ...Oh wait, they weren't and they aren't.
Human nature is now as it always has been. Corrupted and sinful.

We are reaping what we have sown.
I mentioned that I never had children. That was by design.
Sorry if I sound a little cynical.

I have a sister that has raised and home schooled 8 kids. All of them are well adjusted, honest, courteous and loving people. They have been sheltered and in my opinion protected from many of the evils of the world.
The oldest ones are grown and are by all appearances successful and happy and raising families of their own.
But I can tell you that there is no way that either of their parents would have ever played GTA or brought it into their home.
They would never have allowed their kids to watch the Simpsons or Desperate Housewives. And most importantly, they would not have allowed the kids the freedom to discover these things themselves.
You, my sister and her husband are in the minority.

Thank you for holding the line. You sound like a good Dad. I wish there were more of you.

Alex, I would not purchase this "game" for my son. It glorifies and trivializes violence, but in a very realistic way in terms of blood and injury, not so realistic in terms of real-life consequences.

You want to teach him about "life"? Ninety-nine percent of us don't live the life of a street thug, and would actively try to avoid such people if we were to encounter them. My son, age six, frequently pretends that he's shooting a gun. This is normal: Six year olds don't have a lot of power (or impulse control), and guns seem powerful to them. His uncle is on an emergency task force (like a SWAT team) with the police, and I've suggested that if he wants to learn about real guns, he can talk to his uncle. I shot my first gun, a shotgun, at age seven, and naturally, it knocked me flat on my ass. After that, guns weren't so appealing, although I am a reasonable shot with a .22. I just don't need to kill my own food much.

If you want to show him real life, take him to the poor parts of Lisbon, where the drug addicts and whores live. I would start with the part to the east of that square with the Austrian Emperor in it. It's not very glamorous like a violent car thief, just sad and usually dirty. He may understand that his life is privileged, and he may have compassion for those who make terrible, self-destructive decisions.

If you want to show him real life, get him a subscription to an international newspaper, or show him some of Al-Qaeda's Greatest Hits on YouTube. He will soon learn there is enough misery in the world without creating imaginary chaos by which we are entertained.

Let his friends talk, and answer him honestly. But don't let him sit in front of a TV set spending hours (it is a very long and complicated "game") plotting how to put a bullet in a rival thief's brain. That's not the sort of fun a ten-year-old should be having.
