Blowing like stink in NJ!

Happy Spring! New Jersey is seeing a Nor'easter at the moment. Gust to 50 knots and seas 7 to 15 feet. I guess I should be at the boat but my marina in Longport NJ says things are fine except for a few broken dock lines on other boats which they are fixing. Glad I put double dock lines on yesterday before I left. What are the rest of you on the east coast seeing?

On the Chesapeake Bay, last night my electric went off, the water was almost over the finger pier and walkway, and high tide was still to come. The weather service was predicting coastal flooding, so I decided to check into a motel last night. I took a change of clothes, a bag of chips and a bottle of scotch, and was warm and cozy last night, not to mention the fact that I didn't have to walk through the cold rain to the marina showers this morning. All in all, it was well worth the $80.00 motel fee.

My boat was fine this morning, but one boat had an unfurled jib flogging itself to death, and a big motor yacht had come in for shelter, and was trying to get secured in the middle of our entrance channel until the worst of the weather passed. Except for the one jib, there didn't seem to be any other significant damage at my marina. Tide is dropping now, and the next high will be at 10:00 pm. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to continue abating through the day, and the electric is back on, so I'll no doubt be back on the boat tonight, looking forward to that long, cold walk to the showers tomorrow morning.

Well, I've got no canvas up yet, so flogging sails aren't a worry this time. Hell, the mast ain't even stepped yet.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

T37,
Yeah it is. I guess I'm getting that sea breeze I was looking for. I remember a nasty storm on the Chessy last April though that bent my bow chocks up.

Our docks were awash in Annapolis but power stayed on. Gusts to 45 on our beam, barometer down to 988 (!) The CG was called to rescue a Navy sailboat with 14 mids & coaches, with a broken mast, in the WEst River last night. (Not Dan - he was here with me, easing the dock lines at 2 am)

That had to make for some interesting conversations, the CG called out to rescue the Navy.

I think they call it interservice rivalry? Yeah, well, I'm sure we'll be hearing more about this in the weeks to come.
