California same sex marriages

It's been in the news all day that California Supreme Court said a California law banning gay marriages is unconstitutional. Apparently California defined a marriage as a union between a man and a woman. People supporting the gay marriage ban are saying that it isn't within a court's authority to redefine the meanings of words in statutes. Seems like supreme court justices ought to know what their job is but I frankly don't know whether that's a beef or not.

I personally don't think the state should be in the marriage business anyway but it will be interesting to see if brothers can start marrying sisters. Maybe those folks in Texas can use case law like this to marry 10 year old girls? Seems like once the judicial branch steps in and tells the legislative branch that they can't use a simple definition like a union between a man and a woman, what other enforceable definition can they use that won't discriminate somebody else? And is it discrimination when a gay guy has just as much right to marry a woman as anybody else, but chooses not to because of personal reasons?

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Why spend time thinking about other peoples sex lives when it is so much more fun fantasizing about my own?

Because it isn't about their sex lives, it's about the legal and cultural ramifications.

I wish it was that simple. If it was just legal issues the 14th amendent clearly answers the question - they have the right. Equal means equal, not mostly equal.
If it was just cultural - then they have the right because culture isn't law.

Nah, bet your willy's, wee's twee's and what every ya call 'em, it's about sex.
Hey, at least gays presumable have sex after getting married

See the other thread, I'm not fighting on two fronts.

The fourteenth amendment quite clearly limited the vote to MALES only and makes no mention of homosexual rights so the 14th amendment does not support your contention of equal rights to ALL for ANYTHING. As I recall it took the 19th amendment to give the vote to women and the equal rights amendment for women has failed to pass repeatedly.

Sorry, I don't keep track of what people do in their bedrooms... but hopefully it is family enhancing. That is to create a family... Otherwise you are just having fun. And I think that is against somebody's religon, to have fun that is...
