For the love of... RESIZE

Please resize your pictures when you post them

I can't be the only one still on dial up and this site is slow enough already

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Fourth from the bottom on the right column. That is one of many out there

Sorry for the rant, but man is it painful to sit there for so long and then have to scroll around to read the text on pages with huge pictures on them

Rant over, thanks

{RANT ON} You want the rest of us to change the way we do things because you only have dialup access. The fact that you are on dialup isn't our problem or fault. My guess would be that you are in a relatively small minority now-a-days... given the varied versions of broadband internet access available today: DSL, Cable, Fiber-optic, Cellular, Satellite, etc. {RANT OFF}

If you're on dialup and using even a moderately modern browser, you have the option of telling it not to load images... that would save you a lot of bandwidth. In many cases, the images are necessary to the thread, and having an image that is large enough and has enough detail in it is often quite important... There is nothing worse than someone saying, "What is this?" and then having a postage stamp sized photo of it to try and figure it out from.

Many of us are linking to photos we've posted on the web for other uses, and, personally, I see no reason for us to have to resize our photos because you don't have broadband access.

I'd also recommend that you read the post in my signature to help you get the most out of sailnet.....no photos in that thread btw.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I'll bet you're one of a only a few on dial up. Life might be a lot less stressful if you upgraded.

Dial up is a a minimum $9.99 a month. I have seen broadband for $19.95. You could even make a deal with cable company. If you don't have cable, did you send away for your $50.00 coupon......

I don't much see the need for photos that wrap around the backside of my monitor either. PITA! The Portagee seems to manage to size most of his to fit decently. And Dog's point on detail occurs about twice a year and never in those oversized photos anyway. Lot's of people are occasionally on dial-up and the site can be slow, I think the request is reasonable.

I think the request to keep the size of pix reasonable is fair. Even with a good connection it is a pain to have a whole thread scroll off the side of my screen cause someone loaded a big picture on Chucks head on a post!
I certainly see the need sometimes for large and detailed pix but would encourage everyone to try to size their pix appropriately and with the thought that some % of sailnetters have difficulty with large pix. 2 years ago 34% of the US was on dialup modem access...even if it is only 20% today...that is still significant. Don't know what it is like in other countries.

It might be time to give up that 28k modem for a 56k modem.

Only about 45% of people have a broadband connection.

Having an image so large you have to scroll to see it is a PITA. Resizing is being considerate of others.

I, for one, am not convinced it's the images alone - the work firewall blocks most of them if they aren't from SailNet.. so no problem!

..but that @*%!&^ YouChoose widget thing still adds to the time it takes to load pages on the other side of the world and, coupled with all the ads, prevents me accessing Sailnet when I'm on the move - it's just too expensive. I realise it's important to you in the US, but it does makes for slow updates over here - even on broadband.
