I was an avid skydiver before the service, 250+ jumps and never got hurt. Broke my kneecap in the 82nd. Ouch.

My Dad lied about his age when he joined the Navy at 16, right after the bombing of Pearl Harbour. He told me a lot of "guys" lied about there ages. My father's birthday was May 29, which would have made him just 17 at Midway.

My Father was also awarded the Navy Cross.

I spent 4 years in the Marines as an avionics tech on the CH-46 Phlying Phrogs. In the Avi shop they were also known as the Maytags. I worked nights for most of my time in, and if all the flights were back on the ground we were racing day crew out the door. A 2 hour shift doesn't suck if you're stationed in so cal or Hawaii like I was. Play all day, party all night, don't have to get up in the morning. Of course sometimes we met day crew as they came back to work in the morning, but that didn't happen all that often.

Doesn't that just blow you away, 16 yrs old, my Dad was a B24 pilot at 19

At 16 my biggest fear was not passing the driving test, at 19 I was just getting to Chanute AB

I'd like to salute my mother here.
For women to join, they had to be 18, or 17 with parents permission. Her dad refused to give permission. She joined the day after her 18th birthday. He was not happy. She was an aircraft mechanic until my sister came along. They didn't want mothers on active duty back then.
