Dive on it, fish it out, remove the card, and place it in a bowl of uncooked rice. Not that I ever had any luck at recovering things that I dropped overboard! I did get wonderfully narced trying to recover a pair of sunglasses in Agana Harbor once though. All I found was an air-conditioning window unit in 160' of water. Looked to be a Frigidaire but could have been a Westinghouse, I was a little loopy about then. (g)

Heck, it ought to be still fairly clear then! That's 15 degrees over water-skiing temperature out here and about what anything over 20 feet runs year- round. Buoy it and I'll be out-I can use a camera. (g)

It's right under my slip in 8 feet of water, so I know where it is. I'll try and rig something up and fish it out. Too bad it's murky and I can't see it.

Sway's advice forgot the most important step... first submerge the sucker in distilled water to draw out most of the salt and crap...

Instead of placing it in the bowl of uncooked rice, which is a waste of good rice IMHO, put it in an oven that is set to about 140˚. That will dry it out but isn't hot enough to damage the plastics or components generally. Might take a few hours to dry at that temperature, but you want to make sure all the water is forced out.

i havent had much luck reviving submerged electronics. i think the batteries and the water have a tendency to fry the components. maybe it's just me though. but if it's under an unconditional warranty, get a new one. i lost a wallet once, after i got it back it didnt work anymore it couldnt could keep money in it for longer than a few hours without disappearing

Sorry to hear, and yeah - I agree with USP, usually its a wash. IF the unit was powered off at the time, you may be able to dry it out, but if it was powered on - no such luck it is most likely fried.

On the boat - I use a Polariod compact camera which sells at target for $89. $21 for the 2 gig SD card, and for under $130 - a disposable camera of sorts. I just got this and what I used for the snaps for the bleeding tutorial and I have been fairly impressed with picture quality although I do prefer my Canon for the interchangeable lens and finer control.
