Video of three eagles in a dogfight over a crow

Here in Skagit County, the bald eagles are numerous. Over the years I've seen them snatch ducks out of the Skagit River and bay. Last year I finally caught some of their behavior on video. While driving down the road, I saw these eagles chasing each other. At one point, one of the eagles dropped the object and I saw that it was a crow. I turned on my video camera after another eagle retrieved the crow only to be chased by the other two. This is the resulting video.

That was interesting - thanks for sharing. Over where I am we have a few bald eagles and when they are out - and near the crow population, the skies will literally fill with hundreds of crows all doing dive bombs on the eagle(s)... The noise is horrendous as well....

Yep, little birds attacking big birds, all the time around here. Once in a while, the big bird gets peeved and it's all over.

Compared to 20 even 30 yrs ago, there is a LOT more of the birds around here. Neat to see flying. Step dad has a nest at the top of a Doug Fir in front yard! Used to be three nests on Lake washington, now I beleive there is over a dozen with in a mile of the water. One on Green Lake, not sure how many elsewhere.

Bringing our boat from Olympia to Everett when we bought her, we say anEagle chasing a duck, duck would dive, eagle would be on top fo the water when the duck cam up, down it went, a number of times, then duck was able to fly off. A lot like the Nat Geographic shows, only in real life.

A couple of years ago I was fishing (trolling)and caught a small rock fish, which came up fast and was released quickly. It was a bit stunned and just lay on top of the water for a few seconds, as I idled away. When I was about 20 feet away a bald eagle swooped down over my head and grabbed the fish. It must have been just above me watching for something like this.

My son has a video editing software installed on my computer. I was doing some basic scene chopping and then he would show me some of the stuff he was doing with slo-mo, zooms, reversing backwards and all sorts of stuff. He showed me how to do it enough times that if finally started to sink in a bit.

As far as that undercover stuff goes, a dude with a flat top hair cut doesn't blend in very well in La Conner and as long as you don't show up at our dock with a garbage can of undersize female crab, you're safe. I'm actually planning to use your slip today if you're not in it yet. I have some stuff to install in the work boat and all my tools are in the stick boat.

Great video, never seen a baldy with a crow. I love watching the crows dive bombing an eagle travelling through "their" territory. I once saw two golden eagles fighting over a large snake in mid air, I think the snake was "stolen" twice before it hit the ground and they both flew away. Last year we saw a bald eagle swimming towards shore on Lopez Is. so we hung around and watched. It finally made it to the beach, and it had a decent sized dog fish in one talon. Lunch time!

I grew up watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom on Sunday nights and that's the kind of stuff they would show. Just like Marty, I saw two eagles fighting over a duck in the air. At one point they dropped the duck, which dove. Both eagles circled for ten minutes and would swoop down each time the duck popped up. It was incredible and I couldn't believe my luck to witness it first hand. Since then, I've seen one swim a shore with a blue heron, which I think was already dead and I found one on the bank of the Skagit River one cold night partially in the water. I rescued that one, wrapped it up in a life jacket and had one of those wildlife rescue people meet me at the boat launch when I landed. I was told later that it survived after being warmed and given IV fluids. It was incredible to actually hold one of those birds and see their talons.

No worries here I am a rule follower...untill they tell me I cant have beer on my boat...then Ill be a Felon..
