It's hard to find even in Toronto. When I see it, I tend to buy three or four cases and it lives under the cabin sole, awaiting social events or the end of "deconstruction days" aboard.

It's very tasty for a diet pop, and goes very well with gin, as well, a drink to which I turn when the temperature goes above 30 C, as it did today.

OK, today I'm drinking a Blackthorn Cider. I couldn't handle beer when it's this hot, save for a German weissbier or a Czech pilsener.

I'm not much a fan of the diet Vernor's as it seems to be lacking the full flavor of the regular stuff. I also contend that the flavor declined when the switch was made to high fructose sugar a millenia ago. That being said, if you've not had a Vernor's you haven't really tasted what ginger ale really can be. It's much richer in flavor than lesser brands. As a mixer it goes quite well with bourbon also.

For many years it was unavailable in certain states within the midwest and so a visit to Michigan or some other Vernor's equipped state required trunk space for amateur smuggling efforts. I'll wager that there is far more Vernor's shipped home in trunks than there ever was Coor's back in the days before they shipped nationally.

If you've never been a ginger ale fan it's well worth a try. You might like some of us decide that it is the only ginger ale. Be prepared for addiction.

Next time one of you mid-westerners comes out Chesapeake way, smuggle some of that Vernor's ginger ale (not the diet stuff). I'd like to give it a try....

Val, funny, your lovely wife looks like a "Becky" to me. Her parents chose an apt name!

Apparently, they named her after the family gerbil. Go figure.
